mossberg ss1

im looking at a mosssberg ss1 in a 22-250 26" fluted barrel to coyote hunt with..maybe even shoot a deer or 2 with...anyone eles got one r shot 1?

I have tried the 22-250 on mule deer and can offer this small amount of advice; DON'T. If your shot is less than 100 yards and you can place the shot directly behind the ear on a side posture, then you can bring it down. Use the largest bullet you can find, I've reloaded 62 and 64 grain bullets and they are far more lethal than the 50 or 55. First time out I used 55 grain Sierras at less than 100 yards, had all the time in the world to place the shot and stupidly chose the rib cage. Other than a explosion of dust and hair, the buck suffered only a sore rib or two. It didn't even penetrate deeply enough to provide a blood trail.

Mossberg quit the SS1 in favor of the new bolt rifle. The SS1's offer switch barrels which is handy but I don't know if you can find much in the way of selection. Not many were made.

As above, 50 and 55 grain bullets are for varmints, go with heavier 60 grain Nosler partitions or something similar for deer.
