Default New spring hunting guide

I stopped by 1 Game Farm Road Monday and believe it or not, the Spring Squirrel and Turkey Hunting Guide was out!! I got a handful.

Under "New This Year",
1. The youth-only turkey season has been expanded to include the entire first weekend of April (5-6).
2. Crossbows are now legal equipment for spring turkey hunting.
3. WMA's that formerly offered quota youth hunts now open to statewide youth-only turkey season with no advance registration necessary.

Season is, of course, April 15 -- May 5.

They did include some cut-out carcass tags in the guide.

Pioneer Weapons WMA -- no in-line muzzleloaders, no scopes or other optics, no breech-loading shotguns. Compounds and crossbows are OK.

There is also a section encouraging any conservation organization or club with a 501(c)(3) tax exemption to apply for a Commission Conservation Permit for fundraising. The commission MAY award up to 2 elk permits, 2 deer, and 2 turkey permits each year to any group or club that successfully petitions the commission. Elk permits are good for the upcoming quota hunt, deer and turkey permits allow access to any WMA and take a bonus buck, doe, or bird. Deer and turkey permits can also be used on private land during season.

And that's about it! Can't believe they have it out this early!

Hey Mossy,

The Dept. has made it a priority to start getting the guides out early. The new fishing guides are out and the 2003 Fall hunting guides should come out in early July as opposed to mid/late August.

BTW, Brian, they must have seen me coming up at World Headquarters in Frankfort. Everyone was either in a meeting or couldn't be located. I thought I saw Roy peeking out from around a tree on my way out.

This is good news! Nice to read about spring squirrel season dates before they have already passed.
