We get nothing but a hassle when we ask off.

29 v-days/year, with two vacation picks per union contract. Next year, I'll move to 30 days/year and will max out at 15yrs with 35 days/year. Every three months without a sick-call, you get a half day of incentive time, per contract. Also accrue 8 hrs/month of sick time.
I currently take two weeks in May, and three in November with assorted days throughout the year. Christmas is a day I don't work, due to my particular job function; I'm able to take off, unlike 99% of the rest of my coworkers. Coincedentally, my vacation starts 11/16 this year...I've got weekends off, so no need to burn v-time for the opener. I also got lucky, and can start gun a weekend early - heading to Taylorsville WMA in the AM for the quota hunt.

I work 12 hour shifts, so as far as DAYS off, I work at my normal job less than half the days of the year. However I live on a farm and I have not had a real day off since June. I have not been fishing in over a month.
I had stuff I needed to get done today and instead I was stuck doing paperwork, book keeping, talking to insurance agents, paying bills and researching goverment web sites. My advice to anyone who likes fishing and hunting and time off. 1. Do not get married. 2. Do not start your own business. 3. Do not buy a house, unless it is solid concrete with a steel roof(no maintenance).

I'm with the business owner group. Meaning that I can take as many as I want...but I guess the inevitable would be that they would eventually start being unpaid.
I was taking about 5 weeks a year (plus about 2/3 of Fridays off) but the past couple of years I actually cut it down to more like 3 weeks. This year I think I will be back up to more like 5. |

I currently get three weeks of vacation and should earn another week in a couple of years. Our company also gives seven floating holidays. The floating holidays are really just additional vacation days but are intended for the unexpected things that pop up. We also get the standard holidays. Our sick days are covered as long as they are not abused but working from "home office" really cuts down the need to call in sick.
