I am presently deployed in the lovely land of Afghanistan (no deer here, this place sucks) but I recently purchased three of the Martin Jaguar take-downs online. Will not get to touch them until I get back after the new year, unless they extend us, then later, but I am hoping they are at least fun for the kids in the backyard. Heck of a deal for the price.
I own a Matthews DXT and did use it last year for the only opportunity I had for hunting and it did get me some venison, but the previous year was the topper for me. I killed a little six in Cumberland County with an osage selfbow that I manufactured myself with a rivercane arrow. Not something I will really worry about doing again, but I just had to do it at least once to prove to myself that I could. I really prefer the traditional equipment just because it is more challenging and will probably sell my DXT when I get out of this place to buy some extra traditional supplies. In the field when I do get to hunt, I very seldom see anyone using a recurve or longbow and I am glad to know that there are a few of you out there doing it with the tougher stuff. Hopefully next season I will get a chance to get back out there and good luck to all of you this year. |

I killed a doe opening week with a recurve. A buddy of mine already filled his buck tag with a recurve as well.

just bought myself my first recurve this weekend. like pentail those block sized targets are as good as i get 10 yds out at the most. although there is improvement i need to find my rhythm.
i have a bear whitetail challenger that i used to bow hunt with... never was enthusiastic about bow hunting as i enjoy gun hunting but now that i have that recurve that is all i can think about here lately. something about shooting that thing makes it feel more real if you know what i mean.

I have 2 recurves I use for hunting, both have features I like and both shoot good. Fred Bear Kodiak Magnum 45# and a Shakespeare Seirra 45#, both are 52", with 28" draws. Arrows are white cedar, feather fletched, some with glued field points, some with glue on Zwickey Alaskan broadheads. Both of these bows are over 40 yrs old and work great, I had the Bear out yesterday morning shooting targets.
