Default VERY disturbing experience today...........

While coming to work today, I witnessed a majestic Buck in all its Glory then in the end of its wonderful life all in 5 seconds.

I was coming up the Western Kentucky Parkway headed to beaver Dam from Central City. While chatting on the phone with a buddy, I excitedly state, "Wow, look at that Buck." He shot off a bank and out infront of me I would say 100 yards ahead. he was at full speed and instantly I saw what was fixing to happen. I hollered to my buddy, "OMG, he is gonna get it!!!" I quickly calibrated the oncoming traffic and knew what I was about to see. There was traffic in both oncoming lanes and I Knew that camry style vehice was doomed!!! I have to say this, I have taken MANY MANY deer thru my life but it disturbed me greatly to see that Buck in all his Glory and his life come to an end so fast. The car never saw it coming and it hit the driver side head on. Instantly, the hood crumpled and the deer was shot like a rocket forward spinning wildly int the median. If you gre up in the country, you may remember those brown puff ball looking things that when you stomped them, a brown dust rose just like if you slapped a 5 lb. bag of flour. Folks, I never saw so muh hair fly from one animal in all my Life. No more than 5 seconds from the moment I saw this animal he was hit and laying dead in the median. just 3 or 4 miles west of the Beaverdam exit. I had a bout with SkinCancer back in 03 and afte having faced my own immortality,i think it forever changed my outllok on exatly the maening of a "Life". Anyway, just needed to share wha i experienced today with someone. As Hunters, we Love and respect these animals. Such a sad way to see a fine creature end its life. Also, reminded me of how fast we can meet our own demise. By the way, after hitting the deer, the car braked and did make it to the shoulder of the rd.

I know what you mean 12pointer,Heres what I seen one morning. The guy that I work with and myself had just pullled up to a stoplight at a 4 way intersection.Across the road was a small row of stores with a creek behind it.As we were waiting for the light to change a small doe came shooting up from the creek into the stores parking lot. She was soaking wet,a buck was right behind her.She took off running down the sidewalk of the buildings headed for the road that ran along the creek behind the buildings.A car was coming on that road and was just about even with the side of the buildings as the doe reached the road.Thats when everything went into slowmotion ,it seemed. The doe trotted into the road and the woman driving never even seen the deer until it was in her path. When the car hit the doe,it was a huge spray of water and hair. The deer went under the car and the hair and water hit the cars windshield. The woman slams her brakes as the deer rolled under her car.She stops and jumps out of her car and runs screaming to the front of the store and leans againest the building.People run out of the store to see what has happened. She is screaming, because she thinks she hit someones kid. They are trying to tell her it was a deer. She finnally calms down after a few minutes and looks at the deer under the car.I felt sorry for her and the doe.

I have always said when I quit respecting the game animal I am hunting, I'll hang up the guns and take up golf. I too hate to see any animal run over by a vehicle, regardless of the kind of animal. That is why the moron making videos of himself running over deer was so infuriating to me. Folks hit deer and other critters by accident and I realize it is just something that happens. Nature is pretty cruel. To do it on purpose just makes one an idiot in my book.

How was the Camry driver when you stopped to check on them?

exactly.

he said the car made it to the stopped and made it to the shoulder so it sounds like the driver is okay im not saying they are in perfect shape it would appear that before anyone bashes 12 pointer anymore he didnt leave the camry driver there for dead.

I've wondered how you go about taking an animal that has been hit on the highway.

On two separate occassions I have came across does hit on the road close to my house and injured, but not dead.

I've wondered how to go about putting them out of their misery, giving the meat to someone needy, using the carcass to bait coyotes, etc??

What is the proper procedure?

Thats a wild story. I saw a buck get hit in front of Dan Cummins in Paris one morning. It was about 4am and me and a buddy were heading to the duck blind when the car in front of us drilled a basket rack sending the deer over the hood, roof, and rolling over the back off the trunk. I dont know what the person was thinking but they took off. We stoped and drug the deer to the shoulder...
