Just got back in today from our first try at bow hunting elk cows....... did not get one......but man did we have fun and learned alot. Rifle it would have been over on Saturday.
Observations.... I think it would be easier to kill a bull with a bow then a cow. Could have shot 3 different bulls. Cows have eyes in the back of thier heads. This ain't whitetail hunting and elk are very different critters. They sure ain't as tame as what people say. Blind hunting is not the way to go, spot and stalk is. Although could have shot a bull from the blind. Need to be in good shape and part billy goat.......dang them mountains and stip pits are steep. Elk are very unpredictable right now......when you think you have them figured out......... Was fortunate enough to see two big bulls fight Sunday evening right at dusk.....but did not have my camera. Man, this made my trip. Bugling, locking horns, running at each other, satillite bulls watching, 7 cows in the audience....evening sun going down, highlighted on a ridge right in front of me about 150 yards........ Can't wait to go back!!! This can be addicting.

Just remember to watch the wind. They will let you get mutch closer if you take it slow and stay down wind. I walked to within 10 yards of several cows while bull hunting. they were not spooked at all seemed curious.

Hunting in EHU2. Your right on the wind, we tried playing it and planned where we were going to hunt and stalk according to it. Used one of those wind indicators and paid attention.... Funny how if your bull hunting you can sneak on the cows and vice versa...... Wonder how they know
![]() Still way too much fun. Can't wait to head back up there.

I took a cow 3 years ago with a bow. We got the wind in our favor and belly crawled about 200 yards through a field with big chunk rock and scrub brush. Took her at 20 yards. Definitely get out and stalk. Congrats on the draw....that is such an awesome hunt.
