Default Virus!!!!

Warning!!

Last night while doing some research I hit on a BAD virus that went clean though my Trend Mico Internet Security Pro without any warning at all.

Of a sudden I started getting messages on a virus but the messages were NOT by Trend Mico, I didn't see any brand name at all so I knew right then it was a fake virus software and they were part of the virus itself. I would get several messages about the virus in different sized windows and when I closed them all they would come back on. At one time I had no less than 10 windows running at the same time. The next thing i knew pron started showing up in several windows.

I pulled the plug and pulled the internet wire out.

I had gotten a virus not long ago and had to clean out my entire PC. I never did like the set up that came with the fix so I just went out and got a brand new PC.

This thing has a full size TV for a monitor. It's 27 1/2 inches flat screen.

The reason I got this one was it comes with a BlueRay DVD and I can watch the movies on here. No reason to get a small monitor if your going to do that.

It also has Windows 7, so far I like it but we'll see how it handles after I've been though all my stuff.

I guess I'll spend the rest of the day geting all my favorites back on here.

Watch out for those virus.

Researching the Porn sites?

On a serious note, if you have a new computer it's no big deal, just do a destructive format and everything will be gone and simply re-load and you are good to go.

Just for fun, I do it every couple of months. It keeps you in practice on how to do it and it helps get rid of junk that has found a space on your hard drive.

Go figure, Windows 7 is susceptible to a virus! Who would have thunk it.

Sounds to me like this is not a virus at all. You just visited a site that threw up a bunch of pop up windows some of which had something mentioning a virus on the page. If you just enable your pop up blocker you won't have it happen again. If you really got a virus, you would never know until it was either defeated by your anti-virus program if set up correctly, or when your computer crashed from your anti-virus program not defeating it. Just because a pop up window appears and tells you something, does not make it so. If a window would have popped up saying you were the 10,000'th person to visit this site from (insert your city here), would you have believed that too? Number one rule while surfing the internet, Never believe anything you see on a page referring to viruses, contests, or work at home scams. If your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are enabled and set to automatically download updates, you are safe from most threats out there. The other vulnerabilities rely on your own ignorance and hope you are naive enough to click on some sort of pop up window or malicious email.

Wildcat, I lost my PC last weekend and had to buy another one! I also lost ALL my "Favorites", Photos, and my complete address book! A REAL PAIN!! My new PC is a Dell Laptop with Windows 7. Going to take me awhile to get use to this as I had Windows XP on my old one.

iT never STOPED putting up windows, never. By pop up blocker was working. Between that night and the next morning I'll say I went though 200 windows or more ttying to close them long enough to hit my PC controls. You could not get around them. When I cleared the screen of the windows I had just enough time to clink on a couple controls before the windows started poping back up.

Between that night and the next moring I spend more than 5 hours working on it and gave up. I threw it in the trash and bought a brand new PC with Windows 7.

Still have the old PC? You may be able to just do a system restore. Click- Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. If you're lucky and the "virus" didn't disable it, you can pick a restore date a few days before you were infected. Other wise, reformat and reload. It will be like new again but all data lost

If your pop up blocker was configured correctly, it wouldn't have let them pop up. Just because your popup blocker is enabled, don't mean it is set to block all popups. If you were running spyware/malware programs to clean out the spyware, it would have caught it. It was not a virus, it was malware sending you for an eternal popup ride. Most Anti-Virus programs don't take care of spyware/malware as effectively as a dedicated program that does only that. If you don't run spyware/malware removal tools such as Adaware, you will have the same problem with your new pc if you visit the same site that hit you the first time. You can download Adaware for free and use it every day, you will never have that problem again. Here is the link.
