My advice would be to get over as close to 6 b,c, or d as you can get. I've hunted some on Graham, before it became a WMA.

The meat don't fry if the sticks don't fly.

If anyone can offer any suggestion of where to start the help would be welcomed. I would be happy to compensate someone for help and or land access. Feel free to e-mail or call my office. 502-244-4444 Ask for Ashley, tell her it is about hunting she will track me down.

I just wanted everyone who offered advice or help that I got my COW tag finally filled. Hunted two weekends with a bow and came so close twic...I don't want to even think about it now. Took my cow at 250 yards in EHU 3 on CONSOL land on the second day with a 300 WIN MAG. About as clean a kill as you can ask for. That EHU has a lot of young bulls and a few really big ones. Hard to let a big bull walk by you at 10 yards! But I am a really happy camper.
Best advice I can give...with the current seasons overlapping with firearms and muzzle loader...the elk take to the timber or any private land they aren't being harrassed on. Get up where you can look the swales, points, and timber over from one side or a holler to another. Another point is somebody may need to bust the Elk out with an opening shot...have a good idea what path or paths they'll follow.
Last piece of advice...I wish I could have hunted for four or five consecutive days with my bow. Depending on the area, if you can get out early, and set up with a stand on a path leading to where they are actively traveling to and feeding at night... you can ambush in the evenings. Don't get on stand too early. Try to slip in right after the thermals or winds carry wth wind down hill or away from bedded or moving elk on higher ground. Same goes for the morning hunt. Get high, drop down, and set up. More than likely there is a main path several herds are using. Set up on that when the wind is right and you will probably get your shot with some patience.
My last piece...forget that 70 yard stuff. Work to get under 30 yards (you can get within 10-20 yards.) Two cows were stuck during the weekends I hunted, but the arrows didn't penetrate deep enough. They are one tough animal and unfortunately archery equipment is built for deer (especially broadheads) rather than elk. Both shots were out past 30 yards. One shot at 20 yards traveled 300 yards with a double lung shot. You can't get close enough to take a shot.
Looking forward to the next draw and getting one with a bow.
My friends 23yr old son got drawer for a Bull tag first week and is looking for a guide and what is the best EHU unit that he should choose.Ypu can Pm me with any info or help Thanks. Brian
