    Default Velocity ? Multidigits!

I loaded 243 with 65gr vmax over 41gr of varget, my chrony says I average 3400fps the load dat says it should be about 3600fps. Any ideas why this is happening? My rifle is a Rem 700 VLS 26" barrel.
I was getting a few signs of excess pressure with this and backed the load down to 39 grns. I haven't tried them yet.

Normally, published velocities are given as reference only. They are taken from tests using test pressure barrels-most of these are 28" long. Two inches would be about 200 f.p.s. difference.

Thanks, Multi, I'm hoping to get one of these vmax's in a yote or ground hog soon.

He won't know if it's a little slower than advertised. I always used the Speer 70 gr. HPs, but it will render the hide useless

That's probably what the vmax will do. I may try the 95 gr BT for yotes so I can have option for keeping the hide. Do your 70 gr Speers shoot well. The 65 gr vmax I haven't been able to get better than 1.5" at 100 yards with, but the 95 gr nosler bt's I found a sweet load with 40grns of IMR 4831, shoots about 1/4" at 100 yards with muzzle velocity about 2800fps.

I have a 6mm Rem. but yes they shoot very well. I use 3031 powder. The amount is more than the current max. charge in most books so I won't say what it is.

OK I reduced the load .5 grains and set the bullet a little bit deeper. Still having the same issue. They are very accurate at about 3400fps. If I want a load to shoot about 3400-3500fps, should I try another bullet or powder? Before my case were fire formed they didn't have this problem even at 41 grains. Any ideas.
