    Default turkey hunting in Pa.

Anybody ever hunted spring turkey in Pa.I have a navy buddy who invited me up there.I'm wondering if it would be worth the trip and how much tags and licences would cost.

perry max, I lived in PA for 33 years. The SW side of the state would be your best bet for turkey. Washington, Greene, Westmoreland and Fayette counties. Also Clearfield in the NC region is good. You can get out of state pricing at the following link:

    Good luck

Thanks for the area info.I've looked at this web site and can't find any info on turkey tags.it looks like you have to buy a $100 non res license.I had hoped there would be be a 3 day license.

There is no additional tag for turkey in PA. The $101 nonresidence fee is all you pay to hunt turkey, small game and antlered deer with gun. Archery has a stamp and antlerless are seperate on a first come first serve basis.

    Good luck

    Perrymax,
Some things to consider about turkey hunting in Pa.

1)Pa land area is about 12% larger than Ky.
    2) There are so many hunters , they are required to wear "Deer Hunter
    Orange" clothes while hunting![xx(]
    3) In Pa it is legal to hunt turkey with a rifle , 20% hunt with a
rifle! Take a bullet proof vest.[:(!]
    4) Lots and lots more turkey hunters in the Pa woods,
(500,000 plus compared to 60,000 in Ky)
    ( Fall season-Pa has 250,000 hunters
    Ky has 6,812 hunters
    5) Ky harvest approx. 15% of the flock each season
Pa harvest approx. 33% of the flock each season

Final note, if you go, be careful![B)]

That is scary, knowing that there are 8 times the amount of hunters, yet only 12% more land.

Here is a quote from their website
"In 2001, there were 13 people injured by sporting arms discharges during the fall turkey season."

That was just the fall season too!
I would stick to KY, that's for sure!
