I helped a guy track a wounded coyote for well over a half mile with the blood trail finally stopping. If they are not hit in the lung/heart area, they can go on for tremendous distances.
I tracked one on Saturday for 800+ yds. Had good blood in spots but finally ran out. I'm amazed at how tough they are.

Al Prather
Way to far. Trying to take better shot to stop that.
Yes, that was the plan. But we are human and don't make perfect shots every time.
I've only killed 20 or so, and all but a couple while deer hunting. Never shot one beyond 200 yards. I've never had to track but one. He was trotting at about 150 yards and I hit him a little back. Tracked him about 75 yards or so, spotted him cowed down looking at me and finished him off. I can see how a long shot would result in a tracking job though.
What bullet were you useing?
Shot one with a bow, good looking hit and he took off flat out after spinning for a few seconds. I blood trailed him the next day probably 600 yards with decent blood then it quit. A few day later I found him by accident near his den which was only 100 yards behind the tree I shot him in. In all he had to have gone 13-14 hundred yards before dying. They are tougher than any deer IMO
If you want to make a mountain out of a molehill
just add dirt.
