I'm posting more links than billproxs today!;)

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47468880...louisville_ky/

It's no surprise coyotes live in Louisville, but one community is on alert after a recent, brazen attack by two coyotes officials said are working as a pair.

The gated community off Hogarth Drive in the city of Hurstbourne is adjacent to a wooded area.

"Along our perimeter of the city, where it lines up against the I-64 corridor, there are woodland areas there," said Hurstbourne City Administrator Jim Leidgan.

Those areas are now home to coyotes.

The community is no stranger to coyote sightings, but there's never been an attack until earlier this week.

Two attacked a family dog while it was being walked by its owners.

"The family is doing fine; a little shocked because they were out with the pet, walking in the neighborhood. A little shocked that the coyotes were that brazen," said the vice president of the community's homeowners' association, Todd Shaw.

Experts told the homeowners' association the coyotes are most likely not rabid -- they're just protective parents.

"They're having pups right now, so they're looking for food. We used to have a lot of rabbits in here, but they've diminished, and that shows us, probably, where they're gone," said Shaw.

The coyotes' circle of life is squarely in the middle of a human world, which is highly unusual.

The dog attacked was a miniature doberman pinscher, or "min pin." To a desperate coyote, that's a snack, and humans get in the way.

As a precaution, Leidgen sent out an alert.

"Even if you have a dog on a leash or an invisible fence and you have a routine in your backyard or on a street or a sidewalk, take a little extra care," said Leidgen.

Officials from both the homeowner's association and the city of Hurstbourne said no one needs to panic, just stay diligent.

The city of Hurstbourne is also hiring a professional wildlife contractor to humanely control the coyote situation.

Just curious how these new scopes really work. Seems to me that they would only work with a particular weight bullet and powder charge. Any others and you just have extra lines in the scope to look at that are pretty much useless. I read where one was based on a 150 gr bullet. What if you use a 180? Do you have to guess where to put a line? Is this new stuff just hype and neat looking or do they expect you to mess around til you find a combo that works from your particular rifle?

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police are working overtime after six people were shot near Downtown Louisville Thursday.

Police first responded to a call for a quadruple shooting in the 1000 block of 32nd Street around 1 p.m. and upon arrival found three shooting victims in front of a home. Two men were prounounced dead at the scene and a third was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. A fourth man was also shot but he left the scene and drove himself to 26th and Elliott Streets. from there, he was then transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

About 45 minutes later, while police were investigating the scene of the quadruple shooting, multiple shots rang out at the scene.

Police say two additional people were shot. They say a pregnant woman shot and killed another woman. An officer then shot the pregnant woman and she was transported to the hospital.

Witnesses on the scene said the pregnant woman was in a relationship with one of the men shot and killed about an hour earlier.

WHAS11 will continue to follow this story and bring you the latest information as it becomes available.

University Hospital is on heightened security. There were reports of three hostile men heading to the hospital. Authorities have not confirmed if these men are related to the shooting of six people on 32nd Street.

We're in the process of selling off some of our old furniture before we move and I met with a guy today who wanted to look at a couple of end tables I had. These things came out of my grandma's house. They're about 50 years old, real wood, with marble in-lays for the tops. This guy was looking for antique furniture for his new house, so I took those tables down for him to look at. Turns out, they aren't "antique" enough for him. Here's where the story gets funny.

I tell him I have some other old furniture that's been refinished and ask him exactly what he's looking for. He starts telling me about this mantle they bought that was "distressed." Apparently you take good furniture and beat the hell out of it to make it look old. I asked him if that was like people buying "new" jeans that already have the knees and ass worn out of them. It's exactly like that, he tells me. I offered to hook those tables behind my truck and drag them up and down the road for a few miles to "distress" them for him, but he passed. He told me he's looking for a bed frame, so I'm thinking about shooting a few dozen holes in mine and asking $500 for it.

I currently don't have mulching blades, and the replacements I have for my originals that came on the mower are flatter and don't seem to cut as good. I guess they don't have the lift. Just thought I may try Gator blades instead of the OEM.

Have a Cub Cadet LT 1050 for the record. 26 hp Kohler.
Thanks

I know we have complained over and over about this but what the heck is going on. Last week gas was 3.59 then over a few days dropped to 3.31 for about a day or two then jumped back to 3.59 then dropped to 3.39 for a day then this morning it was 3.76. Oil prices have been on a steady decline yet gas is all over the place.

There is no way there is there is that much daily volatility causing these swings. Oil companies have a stead supply of oil and they are not having any crazy swings. A 30 to 35 cent a gallon swing is a huge amount of money for them. I can see a steady rise or fall but there is no way prices should do this. They jack prices 30 cents and the government isn't going to say anything.

Not long ago we were paying less than 1.50 a gal. Then it was 2.50 and we complained but got used to it. Then it was 3.50. Same thing. We complained but they tell us thats just the way it is. Anyone would be tickled to death to have 2.50 now. China is in a slump and Europe is on a downward spiral. Our economy is in the crapper, yet we are told gas just has to be 3.50 now. It seems the only way to see prices 2 dollars again would to be to total word melt down. We are like Pavlov's dog and have been conditioned to believe what we are told as fact. I don't buy it.

http://m.kentucky.com/Lexington/db_/...tguid=W0ulUUsb

Eight months after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, hundreds of people gathered around the steps of the Fayette County Courthouse to honor James T. Cecil and 69 other local boys.
The recent graduates of Henry Clay, Lafayette and other Central Kentucky high schools were forming the Lexington Platoon of the United States Marine Corps. Mayor T. Ward Havely and other dignitaries spoke at the mass-induction ceremony. A young lady sang the Marine Hymn, and women and children wept, the Lexington Herald and Leader reported in late August 1942.
Platoon members left in buses that day for processing in Louisville and training in San Diego. From there, they joined some of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific Theater: Okinawa, Saipan, Tinian and Guadalcanal.
The Lexington Platoon will be honored again Thursday at the Urban County Council meeting. This time, Cecil, 88, will be the only platoon member present. "As best we can tell, I'm the only one left," he said.
Mayor Jim Gray will present a proclamation declaring James Cecil Day. Councilman Jay McChord will speak about how he met Cecil and other World War II veterans while writing and illustrating his 2010 book, A Veteran's Legacy: Field Kit Journal.
"We're losing so many of these guys every day, it's good any time we can honor them," McChord said. "We need to remind ourselves of who they are and what they did."
Cecil and Mitch Alcorn, his Lafayette High School buddy and the longtime Midway postmaster, began tracking down their fellow Lexington Platoon members several years ago, searching the Internet and running ads in veterans magazines.
By this time last year, the group had dwindled to the two of them and Elwood Watkins, who earned a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts in battle. Watkins died July 12. Alcorn, who earned a Purple Heart and later fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars as an Army officer, died Feb. 18.
Cecil grew up on a tobacco farm off Nicholasville Road. "We didn't have any money, but we had plenty to eat," he said. "We had milk cows, chickens and a big garden."
When the war came, he decided to join the Marines rather than wait to be drafted. After training, platoon members were scattered to various units of the 2nd Marine Division, although Cecil served alongside Alcorn and a few others from Lexington. "We were just like a big family," he said.
As I talked with Cecil last week, he pulled out a small envelope. Inside was a portrait of a Japanese officer he killed, and money and a ration card he found in the officer's pocket. That wasn't all: The officer was carrying a map of artillery positions, a find that got Cecil promoted from private to corporal.
Cecil earned a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in the battle of Saipan on June 20, 1944. He survived several Japanese suicide attacks on his camps at night.
"The next morning you couldn't walk without walking on a dead Marine or a dead Japanese," he said.
At the battle of Okinawa, a Japanese suicide pilot hit the USS Hinsdale before Cecil's unit could land on the beach. Cecil spent 45 minutes in the cold water, watching for sharks, before a Navy destroyer rescued him.
"We had so many killed and wounded," Cecil said. "Every battle, you just didn't know who was going to be next."
Cecil's only trip stateside came in August 1945, when he was recommended for officer candidate school. Before he could begin, though, U.S. forces dropped atomic bombs on Japan, and World War II ended.
After the war, Cecil had a successful career as the owner of an Ohio-based trucking company. He moved back to Lexington after Janet, his wife of 52 years, died in 1998. In his apartment, he proudly displays photos of her, their sons and their grandsons.
Cecil's health is good, his mind sharp. He finds himself thinking a lot these days about his wartime experiences, including the occasional nightmare with Japanese soldiers "getting after me."
"I just felt honored and proud that I served my country," Cecil said. "Coming off a tobacco patch and going into battle, that was a hell of a change. We were just a bunch of brave boys."

I got this guy who is 40 and still lives with his dad if that tells you anything. They moved in after purchasing the house from his dad's sister, and they have a aunt that lives across the road from them. But this guy is a piece of work. When he first moved in, he came over and introduced himself yada, yada, yada. Now I'm a friend to anyone. However, this yahoo got on my last nerve on Derby day and I let him know about it. Because even though I got nothing against him, I don't trust him one bit.

Before the Derby day incident, the guy had told me he had been in trouble for some thefts back when he was younger. I just told him that didn't pertain to me unless he ever decided he wanted to take any of my stuff and that would be a different story. But I found out later, he has been in trouble for pills, dui's along with the thefts. He's never done anything major, but he is still a thug in my book, and a loser because he is still living with his daddy at the age of 40 and don't have a job.

The day of the derby, I went out to the store and he saw me leave. He even threw his hand up at me and I did the same. Well, 5 minutes after I left, this dick goes down to my house and ask my wife if I was home, knowing I wasn't. She called me and told me he came down there. I hit the roof...I told her I would deal with him when I got home, but she didn't want me to say anything to him because she doesn't like trouble. I told her I wasn't going to start anything, but rather break it down to him. Well I didn't get up with him that day, but did see him the next day. I told him I would be as nice as I could about it, and informed him that he knew I was gone, but went down to the house bugging my wife and little girl anyway. He said he didn't mean nothing by it, and I told him that may be the case, but I didn't want to have to come and talk to him again about coming to my house if my vehicle wasn't home for anything. I also informed him I knew about his little drug problem, and I personally have nothing for someone who abuses pills and other prescription drugs. He told me he was prescribed them, and I told him what does that matter, he was still abusing them according to his arrest and dui records. So that was that....I haven't laid eyes on him since then.

Well today, my little girl and I went out to get something to eat, and he is standing in the front yard with the sprinkler on. I mean I don't know why the hell he is running a sprinkler on the grass. It's not like we didn't get 1.5" of rain here Sunday. Anyway, he is standing there with he blue work pants on and a tank top with sunglasses like he some kind of hard ass or something. I'm kinda hoping he comes back around here while I'm gone, after I told him not to, and we will find out just how hard he is.

Am I the only one who attracts loser neighbors like this or have any of you other guys have the privileged of having encounters like this?
