I have this large ice storm killed pine about 50 yards from the house. Yesterday I heard this noise like a clock ticking while sitting on the porch. Trying to find out where it was coming from I started walking towards the sound. This dead pine has shavings all around the trunk and it sounds like some alfull big bugs with BIG teeth are under the bark working it over. Not sure if I should cut it down or just let em eat it. Can't burn it due to location and dry conditions. Anyone else ever run across something like this ?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100901/...sets_removed_1

Here is one of the problems in this country. Everybody looking for a flipping handout and will sue for anything they think will pad their pockets. How many of our parents would of ever sued a school district for us getting hurt on a swing set at school? Anybody????

Now I can see if the swing sets are unsafe or have serious mechanical problems, they should be taken down. Although I don't see anywhere in the story about faulty equipment. Only that maintaining a "safe surface" is too expensive. What the hell is a safe surface? A foot of ground up rubber that seems to be everywhere these days? I remember the safe surface when I was in grade school. It was good old Kentucky dirt and gravels. I guess a swinging in a swing set or just getting out and playing tag or hide-go-seek is no where near as healthy as sitting in front of a television all day, stuffing your stomach with pop and junk food while the only exercise you get is moving your thumbs on a game controller.

Something I will never forget is when I was in the 3rd grade. Some friends and I where standing out in the field during recess. When the bell rang, we lined up to have a good old footrace back to the building. As we ran back, I decided to try and jump over the seesaw set to try and gain some ground on my opponents. That didn't work out too well. I hung my foot in the cross bar at a dead run. Had a crash that would have killed 10 ordinary men. Broke my finger and thumb during the crash. What did my parents do....nothing....Took me to the doctor, got my hand fixed up and that was the end of it. Filing a lawsuit never crossed their minds because that isn't how they operate. They have worked hard all their lives and don't look for handouts. Again sorry for the rant, but I'm buzzing like a tuning fork this morning over this crap in the news.

I know I should prob. stop reading it but how will you ever know anything if you don't seek it out yourself. It's not like the gov. is going to tell us about it. I mean we can send thousands upon thousands of troops to other countries to protect our politicians interest but we can't send 3,000 troops to protect our people and country.

The more I read the news this morning the more I think what in the world are some people going to do next. Who sits around and thinks up stuff like this. I just don't know what this day and time is coming to. And to think about what some people are out here doing is downright scary if you ask me.

As far as this piece of trash, they should tie her up and let her lay there, unable to move. Like I said, it's scary to think about what this world is coming to and the individuals who are occupying it.

I know a weatherman is the only job in the world you can be wrong 85 percent of the time and still keep your job but man, is the weather this weekend predicted to be Primo or what? Especially for opening day. I usually go by what Chris Bailey says on the Kentucky Weather Center website because in my experience, he has been pretty spot on or close enough for government work with his forecast. Saturday morning is looking to be around 50 degrees with the temps struggling to reach 70 all day Saturday. If that is the case, it looks as if my Summit will have a warm seat all day long. As for Sunday, Bailey is saying currently we could see temps in the 40's. Again, Primo weather for this time of year. Also, if we are lucky, some of us may get some rain showers today, which could result in a little fog rolling up for tomorrow morning. For me, there is nothing like a quite, cool, foggy morning in the woods.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait. I would have loved to been in the stand this morning with the front moving in. A friend and me went out yesterday and shot a round on the 3D range to get all the bugs worked out and had a great time. We didn't take any binoculars and never kept score. We just walked up to targets, picked out a spot in the kill zone and fired. We shot at ranges from 22 out to 45 yards. Nothing like the start of deer season for me.

So from me to all of you.....good luck in the morning and I hope you come away with a wall hanger or freezer meat. But any day in the woods is a good day no matter if you get to play some string music or not.
