200" gross. Killed at Yano.
A perfect example of what a 1:1 doe to buck ratio will produce.
Yeah-h-h , right!

That is a great buck!!

Fort Knox is managed different than the rest of the state. I think there will be more bucks like that across the state in the next few years.

It is 205 gross... it will net somewhere between 185-200, just depends on the tape.

I also made a typo his name is Troy Gentry, not Tony.

Does anyone know what area that buck was killed in?

That is a sweetums buck. Is Fort Knox off limits to rifles? I noticed he shot it with a shotgun.

Yes, Ft. Knox is open only to shotguns and muzzleloaders with some restrictions on those. The buck was taken from Yano Tank Range. This area is not open much and is probably abut of some areas that are never open. I like to know the age of the deer. That's not the first Booner shot at Knox over the years but the best in recent times. There mat be another B & C this year from another area close to 31 W? Supposed to have a 24 1/2" inside spread?

Wildcat, what do you mean by "Ft. Knox is managed different than the rest of the state"???

They do have some fairly new QDM requirements but that didn't grow this deer. They were new last year. Basicly, it's a slot limit, that protects bucks between a 4" antler and under 12" outside spread.

My guess this deer was a by product of some lawyer some where. A few years ago, Ft. Knox because of lawsuits at other govn. installations, closed about 40 areas that had been hunted safely for many, many years. Plus, Yano was part of another area when it underwent a long, expensive, construction project a few years ago to build a mechinized tank firing range. It's now open only rarely. The hunter went in blind that day and surely lucked out!!! My congrtulations to Troy.

I hunted 42 the last 2 weeks and when I left Sunday there had been about 10 deer killed in those two weekends. That ain't good.

My advise would be not to wait for one like that in Area 10 although there have been reports of one in that area, near the creek, in between Twin Bridges and Otter Creek Park. No kidding!

Multidigits,
You just answered you question. I never said anything about QDM. Like you said they had an area that was closed for a few years and have a slot. That is different than the rest of the state. HH and some other WMA's have a different set of rules than the state as a whole.

Yeah, but that was put in last year. This buck was big enough to shoot last year so that didn't have any bearing on this trophy deer.

PSSSHHHAAAWWW. I passed on that scraggly lil' 10 pointer three times already this year. I'm waiting for the big one and I'm glad to see that someone finally culled that genetically deficient thing from the herd![:p]

All kidding aside, WOW what a buck!! That thing must've been living in an impact area for the last three years munching on those depeleted uranium rounds. Congrats to the guy that got him. Truly the trophy of a lifetime.

ok guys, yano doesnt really have a area number. there are more deer like this on post on a lot of these impact areas. For instance, about 5 years ago, I happened to go in hunt control at just the right time( when Mrs.Jones was putting an area on the board). I, my father, uncle and one friend were able to get on a tank range for the weekend. We were the only civilians there. My father killed an 8 pointer that scored 169 net!!! We both saw several deer with bigger racks, including one that would probably go 200" plus. These deer just dont have the hunting pressure the other areas have. They get in there every night and eat the grass which is loaded with phosperus, and grow massive racks. But the main thing is, they get some age.

Yano is Area 113 Those areas that are permanatly closed are really closed. Even the Civillian Game Wardens don't go in them.
