View Full Version : Drop away rests
Would anyone recommend a drop away or fall away arrow
rest? I tried the Trap Door rest and liked it but in
the down position it rattled. So when the bow was shot
I heard a loud rattle. It was easy to tune and shot very
well but needed to be quiet for hunting conditions. I have
also tried Golden Keys fall away rest, it worked well too
but that stlye of rest has a small bushing and gets some play
in it eventually. I thought about checking out the Trophy Taker
rest. I saw that they used it on a Primos video.

If your looking for a good one, Buy the best.... The Muzzy Zero-Effect. I've had mine for over a year now, never has it gotten outta' whack, or failed on me.... It's kinda set it and forget it unless you change poundage, draw length etc. The cost is around $90-100 bucks, However it was the best $100 I've EVER spent on my bow accs. Just my opinoin, hope this helps...... The rest is very consistent I can shoot high 290's with a high 30 or so X-ring count out of my hunting rig, and believe me it's not a forgiving set up at all.

I'll have to agree, Muzzy does not make my favorite broadheads but they sure have made a good rest!! I've seen several archers groups improve with this rest. When I first saw it I thought it was a contraption, I dont think that way now.

My Cavalier super-flyte is awesome but it a shoot around rest. I shoot instinctive off my compound. This is a very reliable rest. I haven't touched it in I don't know how long. My cousin's fall-away rest works great for him but I don't know the name of it. Good luck !

i have not tried a zero effect rest, i like my whisker biscuit too much to part it.
Hey Solocam: Do you shoot vanes or feathers with your whisker biscuit? Straight, offset or strong helical? Do your feathers or vanes wear badly going through that rest? Even though I try new rests and setups I've got a setup that works great for me now. My next test rest will probably be the trophy taker drop rest.

Solocam---or anyone else for that matter who may be able to answer this...how exactly does that Whisker Biscuit work? I've seen it in the magazines and at Bass Pro, but it just seems that those whiskers would throw the flight off...especially with off-set vane/feathers...
Let me know.
Thanks!
Eric
Muzzy Zero Effect for me.Set it and forget it .No more rest problems.

I agree, set it and forget it.... The Muzzy has done it for me and at least 20 or so other people that I shoot with. Nothing better in my opinion, all you gotta do is set it once, unless you change alot of other stuff around. ( draw weight mainly ) It doesn't "come loose" or "have springs to wear out". It is a great purchase.

I am thinking of getting one myself for my next bow. Do carbon arrows wear the arm out that holds the arrow up very bad?
Tner isn't any wear because the arrow only makes contact with the rest for about an inch or so of travel
sorry about my typing. There isn't any wear......

Do they make a drop away for my recurve? hehehe I'm sorry I had too! Hey now, I still own a compound but I get tired of shooting 300's at the 3-d shoots all the time. hehe

I'm planning on putting a zero effect on my new bow. I've heard that installation can be a little complicated. Any tricks I need to know about? Thanks.

I got my Muzzy rest. I suggest that ya'll watch the video that comes with it 3 or 4 times before you install. I rookied out and cut my linkage rod to short and had to order a new one.

Xtreme,
I won't tell Yogi about that one. Sounds like you should have taken a trip down to the Forks?
I was told you were in the area a couple of weeks ago. Sorry I missed you again. Maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to run into you.
Take Care,

Well, Ranger Dave. Not only are you one of our nations finest in the Park service you are quite the detective...As a matter of fact, yogi knows , he is getting me a new linkage rod.
I consulted with the great guru and actually had his younger brother Greg Long help me put it on. We had it right initially but the way I hold a bow it was hitting my hand so I promptly adjusted it myself sans consultation of wiser and higher authority and promptly dicked it up!!
Sorry to have missed you again!!.. Your comrades in that neck of the woods speak very highly of you and I look forward to meeting someone else who has the immense patience and sympathy to put up with that bunch down there!!........Rick.

Is it true. Can a drop away rest add a little speed to your arrow???
I heard that from a Trophy Taker customer.

Yes, but the gain is minimull and unnoticable. Your only talking abot 2 or 3 feet per second as a rule.
