Can't seem to get the birds to repsond to ANY of my calls like they do in late Oct thru Jan. Sitting with my decoys in a little food plot 11 birds stroll out and the adult hen makes a beeline right for the dekes. She stops and postures for 30 seconds or so, then a small jake strolls right to one of the decoys, fans out and fluffs up then flogs the tar out of the decoy. When it falls over the entire rafter strolls out of the plot. I decided to bust them up and call them back(done this before). Pile out of the blind to discover a deer standing not 20 feet away. He scares me and I scare him amd both kinda startle the turkeys. I start running toward the birds barking like a big dog and the birds take off, some running, some flying. But 4 crazy birds just stand there looking at me less than 10 yards away never moving or anything. Of course my bow is in the blind. Only heard one bird cluck about 20 minutes later. I may change my tactics to wearing camo joggers and run up on the birds barking instead of doing the blind and decoy thing.
