What are some of your favorite camp food(s)?
Mine: Deer Camp Chili (recipe posted under Chili topic) and
I always take a couple of slabs of smoked pork jowel and several cans of my favorite baked beans.
Heat a cast iron skillet and slice the jowl about 1/8-1/4 inch thick and fry up slighly crisp. Remove the meat and pour in the baked beans and heat them up. Pour a cup of coffee and enjoy.

We have a portable propane grill & stove, & a coffee maker. Usually we have fresh stuff!!!! If not, then Grilled polish sausages, Cheddar bratwurst, hotdogs grilled and mixed w/ Armour chili w/ beans!!! When a few of us have a week or so off, I'll BBQ a shoulder or ham and take it to the farm, we'll eat on it for a few days just warmed over the fire,.......Ummmmmmm Good.

I think our deer camp exists just to eat........ My cousin comes up from FL with fresh grouper which is blackened and I make a big pot of red beans and rice. We deep fry a turkey, we make a big pot of chicken and dumplings. Breakfasts whoooooow...cathead bisquits, gravy, fried potatoes, eggs, sausage. ( I had some deer breakfast links made last year that are killer). Grill elk burgers and have found this green sauce we get in CO and its too good........man we gain ten pounds every year during gun season. I'm glad we don't go all out during bow, I'd need one of those two man stands for just me if we did!!!

RDL, how much hunting do you guys do? I wouldn't be able to climb a tree after eating one of those meals!

Hunt hard and enjoy ourselves, its the name of the game. Luckily we have guys that like to cook. Some stuff is made ahead of time so its not as difficult as it seems. You can cook a good meal or heat some canned beef stew, still have the same mess, but man I'd rather eat good!!!

Nothin' like "cathead biscuits and gravy" to start your day.[:)]

Burnt hot dogs or anything.
All is good in the woods.

We like to feast large at deer camp as well. We generally start the smoker before heading out to the stands in the morning and come back to a nice smoked tender venison and / or pork roast. We also put a big iron kettle on top of the wood burning stove and fill it with sausage, beans, onions and just about anything else we can find to throw in it. As we eat on it over the course of the weekend we just add more stuff to it. The pot is never empty and it stays on the stove all weekend festering in its own goodness. Mmmmmmmmm is it November yet???
