Just talked to the Sloughs and the count yesterday was 7600 Ducks and 1200 Geese on the Refuge in Henderson.

My duck hunting partner and I took our own aerial survey this afternoon. I read in the paper about all of these ducks sitting around on KY/Barkley Lake and Ballard Co. It's hogwash! We flew over the Big Sandy bottoms between Paris and Camden, TN -- no ducks, no geese.

We flew up Lk Barkley to the duck pond -- a few ducks on the duck pond, maybe 25 in all, no geese. Did see a smattering of snows on north end of barkley and one bunch of coots plus 10 -20 geese beside Hwy 68/80 at Devils Elbow.

Flew up Cumberland River then to Smithland Dam and Bayou Creek -- no ducks, no geese. Saw a flock of maybe 100 turkeys surrounding a goose pit on the Cumberland.

Flew south across So. ILL to Paducah -- no ducks, no geese. Flew all over Ballard/Barlow/Wicklife bottoms -- no ducks, no geese EXCEPT on the Ballard Refuge. Now I'm no duck counter, but if there are 30000 to 40000 ducks on Ballard, they were all in the bathroom when we flew over. Saw no geese. There are ducks on Ballard Refuge where they can't be touched, but not many.

Flew up Mayfield Creek bottoms and saw no ducks, no geese.

We did see a lot of water -- everywhere! We also saw a bunch of bad looking pits and blinds including ours (which means more work before the ducks come down!). We also saw a lot of robo's and funny looking decoy spreads, and muddy, muddy water.

Conclusion: There ain't no ducks down here regardless of what anybody says. BTW, don't expect this information on a regular basis![:D]
