You should find a place where the birds frequent and set up as close as possible. Listen for alot of soft purring and soft yelps. Most fall birds travel in groups, so getting them to stray from where they were going is going to be hard. Also, gobblers and hens run in different groups. I have often seen a group of 25-30 turkeys, all TOMS! But I also run into all hns too, but it is just as exciting. If you get really hard up, a last minute tatic is to find a group of birds, and run into the group and spook them. Then go sit down quickly and start calling. When they scatter they won't go far, and they will want to re-group. When you start calling, you may be able to call one or two in. Also, as a locator, I have found that a duck call or a goose call works very well in late fall seasons. if you need a hunting partner, let me know.

Dan in the fall hunting turkeys takes on a different meaning then in the spring...first VERY UNLIKELY you will locate a bird per making him gobble...yes its possible but very doubtful fall birds both hens and gobblers seem to be easy to pattern they use the same areas almost everyday so either you find them or you dont if your not seeing much sign move on....find the areas that they are using...
and set up and for
Hens- try doing some lost yelps or kee-kee runs to call in the flock
Gobblers- they claim are very call shy at this time of the yr....so less is better if they are what you seek...
good luck and share with us your siuccess or failures so we all can learn as well..

XI is right.......saw 2 flocks last Sunday first had 16 hens, the second had 11 long beards. They were out in the open at 2:00 PM without a care in the world.
