'Cause I've seen it all. I had the absolute best hunt of my life Sunday. That morning I got out and put down a doe-in-heat trail from a scrape to a little opening in a cedar thicket. Had a little 6 come in and circle that field 30 minutes trying to figure out where the "doe" was. Then I went back that afternoon and hung up a scent bomb in the same place. About 30 minutes, little Mr. Clueless shows up again. He walks from one end then back. Then he starts to leave and I'm thinking"If I can keep him here, maybe the big boy will come to run him off" So hit did two bleats on the can call.. he turns and starts toward me. Little did I know, I had a button buck standing to my left about 15 yards from my blind. Imagine this... Mr. 6 smells doe, hears doe and now he sees "doe". He starts after this button grunting and the button doesn't know whats going on and just stands there. The buck get close enough and figures out he's made a mistake and starts running the button everywhere. About that time a doe walks out. Okay, now 6 has his lady, he starts grunting and running around behind her but she won't hold still. They run in the thicket behind me and I can hear him grunting like crazy. Then 6 gives up, comes back and walks back to the rag. I figure, shows over....WRONG! The doe comes back out and starts across the field and the 6 starts toward her again, grunting the whole time. Then right next to my blind I hear...FIT, FIT, FEE! FIT, FIT, FEE! I can see deer through my peep whole but I can make it out. An 8 comes walking out and he's all swelled up, ears layed back and hair standing up. They both move around the doe then decide... they're gonna have to duke it out. They both lower their heads and nail each other. I'd say it lasted oooohh... all of 1/4 second and the 8 rolled the 6 and jolted him backwards...then gave him two good antler racks as he ran away. The 8 comes back and starts after the doe and they dissappear into the thicket. And all of this took place over about 45 minutes and never got outside of 40 yards from my blind. I was in heaven!![:D]

Wow! I bet that was something to see! You must be after one of those big bucks in Hardin county. I was stationed at Knox for 4 years and know what kind of deer inhabit that country - bruisers! Best of luck![8]

That would have been awesome to capture on video. Regardless though, it would have been an exciting time. I've encountered that before, except there was a spike and a 3 point involved. I was sitting on the ground in the weeds with the deer running right by me. It was almost to the point that I was going to stand up because I thought they were going to hit me while in persuit of the doe. It was very exciting to see

Sounds like a great show. I've seen the snort-wheeze on video, but have not had the opportunity to witness it real life yet. Good luck in getting the big guy to show up!

I've been blessed with a couple shows like that in my life and they are what DRIVES ME WILD[:D] If you don't get to harvest a deer or pass on the deer they are still what hunting the rut is all about.
I had a friend ask me once that hunts very little and he said"have you ever heard a deer whistle?"...I laughed and said yes. That is when you see the whitetail in all their glory[;)]
Keep after em Big blue, your in a hot spot. Good Luck!!

Ameristep's Doghouse...its pricey but I caught it half off at Dicks. Originally bought it for turkey but its great to bowhunt out of. I've had a flock of 20 turkeys scratching just outside the window and they couldn't see me even with orange on. Its a pop-up style. I really like it.
