How long does it take for winter wheat to come up? What is the latest you can plant it?

Generally takes 2 or 3 days before it starts to come up, esp after a nice shower. Plant in Aug or Sept. As a sidebar- during this time of year all the guys that were touting alfalfa have learned the winter wheat is THE place to be from now thru end of the season(along with honeysuckle come Dec)

It is best to plant early. Most years you can plant it until the end of October and still have a good hunting patch. I planted some on a 7 acre just harrowed cattle pasture the first week of November this year and it is about 2" tall now. But this has been an oddly warm year with few frosts. In March my cows will be eating well.
