View Full Version : Question for DC?
I read on the Deer Hunting forum where KDFWR was dropping their support for the KY Hunters for the Hungry. I can't imagine that doing so would be to the KDFWR's advantage in any way. Since the KDFWR obviously is working hard to get deer hunters to harvest more does, what better use could they support for the harvested venison than to be used to feed hungry families? I don't know anything about PR but it seems to me that this could easily give the KDFWR a black eye if they go from advertising HFTH in their Hunting Guide one year to pulling sponsorship the next. Is it true? If it is true, whose idea was it? I know dollars are tight but the KDFWR should at least endorse HFTH, even if they can't lend direct financial support, if for no other reason than as a positive end result of agressive deer population management. What's your take?

FYI- There is a pre-filled Bill before the General Assembly
this session to give meat processors a tax break on handling
meat for HFTH.

Don't know where the forum rumor came from. The dept. is not dropping its support of KY Hunters for the Hungry. At the December Commission meeting the HFH director provided a report and a heads up that more financial support would be requested in the coming year. No request for such funding was made in December.
Thanks, DC. I knew you'd know the scoop. Glad to hear the good news.

I thought I read somewhere that the Commission voted against giving another auction tag to HFH this year.
You are correct Bowcrazy. HFH requested consideration for a conservation permit at the Dec. Commission meeting. However, the Commission doesn't consider such requests until its June meeting. Nonprofits wanting to apply for these permits (2 each--elk, deer, and turkey) must do so by April 1st. HFH wanted to get a tag to raffle during the boat show season (now).

In our most recent issue of KENTUCKY BOWHUNTER it was reported on the Dec 7th Meeting by Mike Roberts that Commissioner Boatwright Stated the Dept. Could no longer continue to Fund Kentucky Hunters for the HUngry. That is where I got the report.
