I use a 22-250,223,and 12ga. They are all about the same with well placed shots in the range limits.

wonder if you can legally coyote hunt with 223 FMJ's?? I don't think you can but I am not for sure.

I have a 222 remington that I coyote hunt with but I shot a big coydog during deer season at 325 yards with my 300 win mag and he never knew what hit him,it sure done a job on him.

Yotekiller,
I hunted coyote last year. Called in five(took two). It was a really enjoyable experience. I first hunted with a shotgun, but the coyotes would only come in so close and stayed just out of range smelling around and looking until I was busted. I switched to my .308 browning BLR mountain rifle. I set up the same way I did before in the same exact spot. I used the rabbit call and sure enough they came from the same area and stopped in the comfort zone. They probably knew I was there when they heard the call, but they seemed to know I wouldn't shoot at them at that range because I didn't before. Needless to say, That was the end of mr. coyote. I use my .308 for deer hunting as well. Ialso harvested a 150 class 8-pointer and a little female coyote on Peabody in November. If I had the time, energy and funds to support an additional hobby like coyote hunting, I would get a .22 magnum or a 22-250 with a good scope and see-through mount.

Depends on what you want to spend.
Cheap but good....H&R single shot. They have a 223 or 243 in 24inch bull barrel for $200. Swedish Mauser, approx cost under 200.(if you reload, mine will put 100gr bullets in 3/4 inch at 100 yrds.
Bolt action, I would go with a Savage in 223 or 22-250. Accurate, cheap for a bolt action and put together right.
After that, the world is open to you, how much ya want to spend.[:D]
I've been playing with a 7mm-08 for about a little while.
Heck of a round.

Gsp i reckon that 7mm08 is a heck of a little round ,i'm just wonderin where it fits in.What have you taken with it and the effects?Iknow a guy that has a savage striker in that caliber and he leaves his long guns at home,i'm interested in learning more about this round without adding to his ego. Thanks
