I,am thinking this will be an early fall. If it is this will mean good hide,s this season. We can hope anyway. Looking for a few extra no. 2 or 3 for fox and yote,s. If ya have them give me a hollar. Need strecher,s to. Where are the steel layer,s out there. It,s getting closer every day.[8D]

nope I dont do any snaring, the farms I trap have one fencerow and it is the property line, the rest is open feilds of nursrey stock, trees plants etc. I am a true fan of the victor #2 coilspring.
I have big intensions on thinning the coyote's and fox's, but probly thin the possumns more than anything[:p]
Where do you trap and what do you target?

Have you ever been to trapperman.com ??? If not there is a lot of very useful knowledge thrown around at the site, from baitmaking to fleshing!

The victor # 2,s are at the top in my book also. The foxes are getting thin around here i think its the yotes. Gona go for both this year and try a cat if it don,t make a fool outa me. Think i need to use a #3 on those because of the big pads. People think ya nuts when you mention a coyote, never seen one they say. Spend enough time in these hills and youll see a crap load of sign. Theres a lot of it for sure. Just wanted to try snaring some this season. MY lines will be in pike & martin counties. Yep i,d say there will be a few less possumns this year to.[:)] I have been to the site ya mentioned and i like it. Going ta check out some new areas soon while sanging a little. The season on it opened sunday i reckon. The berries are red now. I like to make sure i can plant something back for later. Some dig early but it,s just a killing the future market, thats the reason for the season now i guess. Been laying steel since 68 still got the bug.[8D]

Greenapple, if you want beavers and muskrats, I've got about a mile of river frontage in Letcher County with both that you would be welcome to.

Greenapple, ya might want to read the law's on trap size before you set a #3 on dryland. Personally I dont think the law on that is right but it is the law. No trap larger than #2 for dry land sets, with the exeption to softcatch traps.

Thanks ksp965 i started out on rats as many have. The market has went up. This year i had planed to do it agian. The beaver sounds great. The rats are just not over here like they used to be. Let me know how and when to check it out. I have done some trapping around the dean an colson area a few years back. Used to be a real marsh over there, rat houses an all, have never seen nor will i see it agian. A coal co. filled it up. A real life wetland gone forever. It was like being back in time. I,d like to come over sometime soon and check on the area well ahead of the season if i can. Steel foxin you are correct no 3s on the dry. Looks like i,ll be learning to snare some. It is a given that i,ll not use any without deer stops on them. Either of yall bushytail hunt the season opens sat.

Greenapple and Steel foxin,

Good to see you guys on the site. I only had 1 or 2 people all of last winter to talk trapping with. I trap just about anything over here in the west. I prefer beaver, cats and coyotes. Catch lots of coons and otter as well. Hope to keep talking trapping with you guys.

Howdy all, ksp965 got it and have replied. Snareman i,am gald ta find this board agian. Burnt my mommy board ta the ground some how in my other dang box. [xx(] Had ta get back up and running agian. I,ve been to this board on and off for a while an decided ta start puttin my 2 in. Glad ta be here everyone seems ta be pretty nice folk,s. I,ve been trapping for over 30 yr,s on and off. I guess about like everyone else depends on fur price,s. Don,t like ta take it and not get a decient price for it. Don,t do it for the buck,s that,s for sure as i say ya all know how it is. It,s in my blood i reckon. Gotta aquire a few more trap,s and strecher,s this year as always. Love those cold frosty morning,s. My bone,s say no but my heart say,s i gotta doit.[8D]

Greenapple,

As always good to see ya posting!

Where do you buy your lure's and supplies?

I have a bunch of traps I need to get boiled and waxed, but have no dye or wax.

I think this year im gonna use all gland lure's and forget about the urine. Make all dirthole set's and hope for the best.

Hey Trappers,

I use Minnesota Trapline and am very satisfied. But, stay away from their "professional bobcat live trap." It is homemade which they don't tell you. I made my first catch of something and whatever it was tore the trap up pretty bad and got away.

Thanks for the info snareman, been in the bush for a week, just got in tonight. Watched a doe and twin fawns feed for an hour last nite. Can,t beat a week in the mnt,s to clear ya skull. New tent held up dry even in the worst of wind and rain. I expected a wet but that morning over an inch of water ran through camp that nite. Coleman makes good stuff. Made a beliver outa me. Cumberland,s is where i shop most of the time. Never had a glitch with um yet. There in owatonna. O yea i seen a crap load of sign this past week. Big yote and kitty track,s. Thang,s a looking up.[8D]
