Hello everyone, I recently moved from the city to a house on 30 acres and im very new to hunting all together. I own a bow that I have shot only a handful of times and I plan on doing some hunting with it this year.
Anyway I have been seeing a hen and her 5 poults coming around my house about everyday and I was just curious if any of you kill hens or do you just let them walk?
To give an idea of how green i am, I have never shot at a living thing other than birds with a bb gun. Sorry to post such a basic question but i have been on this site searching and just cant to seem to find the answer.

In the fall, you can kill hens. But if i were you i would practice practice practice with that bow. Dont juss shoot at the hens without practicing any. Its unethical because you may put an bad shot on her and never find the turkey.

Good point, Right now i am limiting myself to 15 yards. Thats about all I feel comfortable with at this time.

Like chad said,
I would practice practice practice and as you get comfortable at a certain yardage challenge yourself and move back 10 yards and try there. Just be consistent and learn to calm yourself with every shot. Not everyone is perfect with a bow... People miss, People make bad shots it is just stuff that happens. But with practice it comes so much more natural and your confidence with shot placement and consistency will become greater day by day. As far as your question, I would shoot a hen if she was in range and I was presented with a good shot. Most likely the poults will survive without their mom. Good Luck and God Bless
