I'm going with my son's cub-scout group next weekend for a two night camping trip. It'll be on KY lake, so we'll fish some, but we'll still need other stuff to do for two days. Ideas?

A trip to the LBL nature center and then a spin through the Elk/Bison pen.

Boy Scouts have always been big on canoeing, do you have any, or any kayaks? I took my kids to a creek and we all had minnow nets and turned over rocks and found crawdads, eels, periwinkles, muscles, and helgermites. You can do that explain the food chain for fish!? Also, seineing your own bait is fun for kids.

They love tossing tennis balls at set traps on a wall. If they hit the pan right it will catch the ball and they get a prize.

My kids are probably a little younger (5 & 6) than your group, but they always enjoy going out to find rocks that they can paint and bring back home. You could probably modify the idea to something they'd be more interested in--maybe find something to make into neckerchief slides.

Great ideas guys! These kids are 6 and 7, so I'm sure a lot of time will be spent with them just running arround, and patching up knees and elbows.

Which brings up a good point! Make sure and take a good first aid kit, and plenty of calamine lotion and bug juice!

Cornhole & redneck golf (ladderball) are good to occupy young 'uns (and old 'uns too) around a campsite!

Setup a Map and Compass course. First show them how to use a compass to find a point and direction. Now setup prizes at certain points and allow them to "find" the locations using only the compass and map.
PS. This works better with young kids if you draw a simple map yourself instead of using a real topo.
