Just picked up a Ruger #1 in .280 Remington, 95+ condition, 3x9 40mm Leupold, premium circassian wood. Probably my last purchase (I said that when I bought a 40 Springfield XB or whatever it was.) Have a .280 in Ruger 77R and a 7mm mag in Ruger 77. Love those .284 choices. Probably will not hunt with it, it's too "purty". Got it for my birthday last Saturday (8/7). Thrilled with it. Just wanted to post and tell someone that likes guns.

I've said that myself...and just like you I can stop anytime I want to (I just don't want to right now):p

Love the caliber! I'm close to finishing a .280 Ackley for myself. It'll be the last hunting gun I do for myself...NOT!--Mike

I love the .280 myself. I've had a Remington 700 .280 for nearly 20 years and shot a bunch of stuff with it. It's a great caliber.

Mike, I built one ten years ago and love it.I like it for the long beanfields. Mine likes the 140 grain and a whole bunch of Reloder 22.

You will also be pleased with the Springfield XD as well. Great, reliable pistol. Did you get the subcompact or full on version in the XD?

I can't wait to finish it up. Too busy right now though. It's going to be a lightweight hunting gun that I plan on using for open field hunting and whatever else I can get out of it. It will be about 7-1/2lbs scoped. I have a .260 that I love but is a bit heavy to pack around. I'll throat the .280 AI for 168gr Bergers and should be able to use a wide range of bullets for different uses. They are a pretty well kept secret that many don't have experience with...they're missing out IMO. Have you tried n165 powder in yours? I haven't but have heard it's good in them. ---Mike

The .280 AI is on my "want one" list too. Maybe when I get the "round tu-it" parts needed to finish up the .260 I started last winter I'll think about getting a start on the .280 AI.

Never tried the n165,I did try n160 that shot well, it would be my next choice behind the 140,s.My rifle is a little on the heavy side,I put a number 5 contour Shilen select that finished out at 26".
