I found some 9mm ammo the other day. I got a box of Remington UMC 250 rounds and they also had 8 or 10 more boxes. Is anyone seeing supplies increasing yet or maybe I just got lucky? The sad part is I got it for 54.99 and the same ammo on some auctions sites is going for 75 to 80 dollars. I hope the supplies are increaing to keep the vulture from driving the prices up further.

You got a little lucky IMO. It can be found but usually is gone in minutes after it hits the shelf unless it is $75-$80 for that ammo. It costs me more than you paid and I can't get it right now...--Mike

Uncle Lees has alot of ammo on the shelves. It is a little high in my opinion but they have plenty of 9mm, .223's, 40cal, and 45

Last week week I attended an multi department supplier meeting with the largest US retailer (W) for my day job, the topic of the day being Supply Chain Management.

Noticing another meeting attendee with a name tag from one of the name brand ammo companies (another W) I took the opportunity to ask “What is the outlook for this supply / order backlog”?

The short answer was “Our order backlog in much smaller than it was last month, but we are still way behind”

I'm seeing a TON more ammo now than I was 2 months ago. The only thing that's still pretty rare is .380. Walmart is even stocking handgun ammo again.

Am I understanding this correct? The price per box of 50 is around 55+ dollars?

The box was 250 rounds for 55 dollars so that comes out to 11 dollars for a box of 50. Pretty good deal now days.

Still not finding any 38 special.

I've been on the lookout for some 38's for my FIL.... walked into walmart about a week ago here in Murray... they had 6 boxes on the shelf. Winchester 38 +P ..per 50.. $18.95. Snatched up two boxes and felt like I smuggeling some type of contraband all the way to the cash register.:D

Seems some of the pistol ammo is more available than what it was. Been seeing some 9mm, 40 & 44 mag just about everytime I check. I'd just keep checking....may get some in around your area.

I cast my own bullets and reload. Even with the high cost of primers at $36 per 1000 I can load a thousand rounds for around $50.(9MM) With my older stash of components it comes to about $30 per thousand! I know Its hard to get into reloading with the scarcity of primers and components but I would highly recommend it! Plus you can custom make loads for your gun which will shoot better. Yall have a good one!!! PS save that brass!

Is all brass created equal ? Is some better than other? I know aluminum cases shouldnt be used but is there some brass thats junk to reload?

Anything that's not plastic, aluminum, or steel is reloadable.

Some brass is berdan primed. look for 2 small holes inside the case . its european brass that is difficult to reload unless you have very special equipment that Ive never seen avail in the US. Look for one hole instead thats boxer primed which is reloadable. Now some military brass is crimped mainly 223 but can include other calibers. That crimp has to be reamed out before reloading. Some 9mm brass mainly military is hard to reload because the primer pocket is a bit smaller. If you stick with non military brass its usually easier to reload. Now some cases are nickel plated and are reloadable too. However they dont seem last as long as the brass ones. As stated alluminum and steel are basicly useless for reloading. Hope I have helped out a future reloader!!!

Hey Rock glad to help. Ive been reloading for about 30 years now and really think its a great hobby!! Ive been able to shoot quite a bit more because of the lower cost and the real fun is being able to fine tune a load for a gun. Im not saying factory ammo is not accurate. Im saying that each gun I own like a special load to be super accurate. Also you can make loads that just arent available. For instance a 30 30 110 grain load. Ive got a 30 30 110 grain load thats more accurate than a 150 or 170 grain out to 150 yds!! Its a great varmint load and its going out at almost 2800fps. Now thats moving for a 30 30!! Plus it doesnt kick much ,would be a great load to teach a young person with!! Good luck! Ps I read that many years ago when the fancy calibers of today werent out that factory 110 loads were available. I believe it was in the 20s and 30s. They also said it was a great turkey load!

Well anybody who makes their living selling guns and ammo should love Obama by now... I had the forsight to buy stock in some of the ammo companies, but decided against profiting off of the fears of others...damn morals:(

I coundnt believe it....Walmart had ammo yesterday. I picked up 100 rounds of 9mm. I went to Dicks Sporting Goods and they had the selves packed with all ammo. I think at last we may be over the hump.

I think the horders have run out of $$$ or places to store the ammo. Also believe the ones who stocked up to resell are getting stuck with alot of ammo, primers, and powder.

Not all of us are fools. No way I would pay $50 for 1000 primers, or $200 for 8# of powder, but I seen it happen on gun broker auction site when all this 1st happened, but now those guys are not selling anything.

I actually saw and purchased 50 rounds of .38 ammo from Wal-Mart in Louisville - guess the thugs finally stocked up!

I think that is a big part, if not the bulk, of the problem. I have seen a lot of the 550 rds .22LR that I am pretty sure is unique to Wal Mart selling for $30 and more at gun shows and flea markets. I'm in Somerset and rifles/pistols (which require more capital) are starting to become more prevalent, but ammo is still hard to find.

It wasn't the thugs stocking up. It was scared white folk.

It is impossible to have too much ammo. If I were worried about cost I'd take up rock throwing.
