View Full Version : ruger blackhawk 44 mag scope question
I would like some info on a removeable scope setup for this pistil. I read about this in fur fish and game magazine last month. This guy bear hunted with hounds after they had the bear treed he would quick attach his scope, take care of the bear and put the scope in a pack. This would make for easier carring of a large pistil.I prefer a hip holester over a shoulder holester. Any info, tips, or where I can find one will be helpful
thanks

I was never a fan of quick release mounts... but I can see their purpose. I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 but I never scoped it. Most of my handgun hunting was with a scoped T/C Contender... carried it in a shoulder rig. Large scoped handguns do present their own carry issues. Taking the scope off & own... it needs to be very good mounts , rings and a quality scope.
As far as quick release mounts.....

What you'll need to mount a scope on the Blackhawk:
The standard Blackhawk will need a scope ring base installed on the gun, then you can use the QD rings that JD posted in the links:

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=15234/sku/Black_Ruger_Mount (requires drilling and tapping of the gun)
If you have the Blackhawk Hunter with the integral scope bases then you'll need scope rings designed for the Ruger mount system:

I have several blackhawks with 1 in 44 mag that I was wanting to scope but these guns are a matching # set and I dont want to drill and tap it. B-square made a no drill mount for the blackhawk several years ago but they are hard to find now. I researched it and it had bad reviews from just about everyone who tried it. It would not hold up to the heavy recoil of the larger calibers but seemed to work ok on the super single six in .22. After lots of thought I decided to build a no drill mount and I got about half finished with it and just lost interest. I still have all my parts and the mental pic of what I need so maybe I will get it done someday. Something for thought crimson trace makes laser grips with ajustable laser for the blackhawks but there kinda pricey cheapest I have found $167.
