In my 50 years of boating I have seen this three times. Once at the Ohio River, and twice at Rough River and everytime a man was driving.

You've seen someone go truck first into the drink off a ramp THREE TIMES?
or you've seen a truck go under 3 times?
I think Jdatillo and burd1985 saw the best one ever over on the Ohio River.

It was trailer first. They forgot to put the vehicle in park and set the brake. Still a mess whichever direction.
trust me

I've seen it trailer-first twice. Once because the driver got his 2WD too far back in the slime, and then dropped his trailer axle over the end of the ramp. Not pretty. The second time was a guy's S-10 parked and shut off on the ramp. Suddenly the auto transmission went "BANG!" and the truck went "Splash!" I hooked a cable under the front bumper of that one in about 10 feet of water so the tow truck could fish it out. The headlights still burning from the bottom showed me where to go.
Neither of these cases were necessarily the result of stupidity or carelessness.

A boat ramp is a great place to get a days worth of priceless entertainment.

I watched a guy try to pull a 30' pontoon boat up a steep boat ramp with a 2-wheel drive 1/2 ton truck once. It was quit funny :D

Why do you think that have such big crowds at Coxes Park at the Ohio River boat ramp on weekends. It can be very entertaining, unless you are in-line waiting on them to finally get their trailer loaded.

I've seen so many it's hard to pick a most foolish one.....
.....ok, it aint that hard.
That would be the guy who came off the launch with his boat held only by a piece of roap you wouldn't consider using to lynch a squirrel. So he makes it a couple blocks to in front of my house, when he makes a turn and the rope gives its final gasp.
Boat now sits in the middle of the roadway all by itself. Interrupted my stock car race nap, but fortunately did not roll into my brand new truck.
So dude backs up, and a crowd begins to gather, and we now have roughly 150 ideas of how to put the boat back on the trailer. Now please look at my screen name.....I was doing this sort of thing professionally, you know, for a living. But no, there's some more educated geniuses about. It being one of my prize days off, I elected to watch this collection of jackasses jacknife the tow vehicle, hook a brand new tie down strap to the POS boat, tie it off to another vehicle to pull, while 5 or 6 short bus refugees pushed the boat like they were plowing granite. If I do say so, they did manage to get the boat back on the trailer eventually, even if the $1000 worth of damage they started with was $2000 by the time they got done. It was fortunate that no one was hurt.
Anyway, if you want to know how to pick up a trailerless boat from the middle of the road, with only two guys, and no extra damage to the boat and motor, give me a holler.

It's more fun to blame it on that however.:D
My one experience was ignorance. Iwas pulling my little boat out of the lake one day with my 1979 Black/orange trimmed, Jeep CJ-5. 304, headers, chromed out, lifted just right. It had a manual 3-speed transmission. Reverse was all the way to the left and forward. I was used to driving my Chevy truck that had a 4-speed tranmission, where 1st gear was all the way to the left and fwd. Well, I tached up the 304 on that Jeep, shifted the stick all the way to the left and fwd, popped off the clutch and then I almost went through the windshield as the jeep lurched backwards into the lake. The boat came off the trailer, but I immediately put it in 1st and roared out of the lake. I then drug my aluminum boat onto the ramp. Water came in the doors I was so deep. There were a lot of witnesses. I just jumped out and said, "I meant to do that".

Agreed, my dad said launching a boat by himself can get interesting at times.

OK I have one myself I must admit. My son was about seven or eight. I had a 16 foot john boat fully loaded with all my gear ready to launch at Pulaski park at lake Cumberland. The wind is kicking 15-20 mph so I figured we would go fish back in Fishing creek and get out of the wind. I'm backing up the boat and decided Id let my son take part in the launch. I give him the rope to the boat and have him stand well off the ramp so I can see him. I tell him that after I launch I'm going to park the truck and Ill be right Back. So I back up launch the boat and run up to a parking spot get out and start walking down to the bank. As I'm coming down the ramp I see a john boat that looks allot like mine about 100 ft out in the middle of the lake. My son is 50 foot down the bank chucking rocks in the lake :) I studied the situation for a moment and couldn't do anything but laugh. About 30 minutes later a couple of guys come running up the lake with my boat in tow and got a good laugh out of it. My son said he got tired of holding the rope..........
