Just aquired an 870 Super Mag. Got it on sort of a trade, it's not like I was shopping for a shotgun. I'm not trying to start a rem vs mossy vs (u pick) shotgun discussion here. It came with 3 chokes. The full is stamped for steel or lead. The mod & i/c are not stamped. Are they for lead only? Have shot a 20ga 870lw wingmaster magnum for years. Will I notice any difference in the length of working the action? Have noticed I sometimes short shuck the 20ga & I always blamed it on the 3" chamber. I know it couldn't just be me.:D Just wondered some of the pros & cons of this gun.

nothing IMO. some of the older full chokes you dont want to shoot steel through according to certain gun gurus.

You can shoot steel through any of the chokes that you have. The full or an IM would be the ones that wouldn't be safe for steel but the 870 chokes are all steel rated. I've shot several hundred rounds of steel through the full for my 870 SM.

The short stroke deal is all up to the individual. I never noticed any difference when moving from the 3" to a 3 1/2" gun.
