I know very few people use slugs in kentucky but i am sure lots of you go to shotgun only states. I was wondering what slugs you guys had the best luck with.I have tried several different ones I like the winchester supreme partition gold for what they do to the deer but they arent all that accurate. The remington copper solid will shoot with most rifles at 100 yards but i dont like the performance on deer Just wondering what you guys have had success with

Buckhammers work for me. Make a nice big hole.

I shoot copper solid and find them to be shockingly accurate for a shotgun. What bad experience do you have with them on deer sized game?

I like slugs so well, I think they should be the only thing allowed during gun season:D:D:D No joke though, I like the federal sabots out of my benelli......deadly

I've been using the Brenneke Rottweils with my 870 SuperMag with a riffled choked. I've never had a problem with them. They shoot well, do a lot of damage and are relatively cheap.

I love the partition Golds out of my Mossberg bolt action. I feel confident out to 150 with that combination. I must say, you are the first person that I have heard have accuracy issues with th W.P.G.'s. My dad swears by the coppersolids so you may want to give those a try. And you are correct, they do do a number on a deer.

The only thing i have against the copper solid is the deer i killed with them last year just didnt have the damage like the partition gold and they seemed to travel farther and die slower My experience with the partition golds is tremondous damage but not as accurate They arent terrible under a six inch group at 100 yards but copper solids are under 2 inch easy. I was just wanting to try to find something with the accuracy of copper solid but closer to the performance of partition gold

The remington buckhammers hit like no other. Are not as accurate as a spitzer but with 600+ grains you can't complain.

I swear by the Hornady SST load in both the 12 and 20 gauge. I shotgun hunt in Indiana with both and wouldnt hesitate at 150 yards with either but especially with my 20ga 870(I shoot it more often) 12ga 870 is just as accurate but has a little more kick than I like. The 20ga shoot the 250gr SST just like you can get for a muzzleloader and I believe the 12ga is the 300 or 350gr cant remember. Just my 2 cents

I get great accuracy with Winchester High Impact 1250fps,trouble is they quit making them. When ever i find them i buy all they got.The partition gols shoots ok 4-5 in at 100.Hornadys didnt shoot very well in my 1187 Rem or H&R Slugster. The buckhammer is ok 4-5 in at 100yards.Wish someone would report on Remingtons new plastic pointed ammo.Want to try these but cannt find on shelf anywhere.Good luck, finding that right load is sometime hard for slug guns. When you find it buy a lot of them.

I've tried several in my 870 and the lightfields by far outperformed the others I tried. I probably spent close to 250 bucks last year trying the different ones. The Lightfield hybrid exp. did the best.

Have deer gun hunted Ft Knox for the last 30 years with shotgun slugs. Lots of new and expensive choices out there to use.
Standard Foster slugs, like Remington Slugger, out of a good scope sighted gun work just fine and are about $2.50 a box of five.
With slugs being so trajectory challenging, a good range finder is quite helpful.

I always used the copper solids when I hunted with a slug gun. Never had an issue with performance on game. I prefer to use my inline muzzleloader in most situations where you are not allowed to use a rifle. I get better accuracy.

sst's work real well with being acurate and deadly I would shoot 150 yards if everything was clear 870 fully rifled with nikon scope

I haven't used them but was reading a magazine review about the FN Herstal shotgun I just bought, and they claim that they were using the Extreme Shock sabots (like $4 each) that are partially made out of tungsten, and at 100 yards with a 2x scope they were patterning so well that all the shots were touching each other, even with a shorter non-rifled smooth barrel, only a rifled choke.

I agree. I use a H&R 12Gauge Ultra Hunter and by far the best performer has been the Hornady SST. Extremely accurate and plenty of knock down.
