Weaver makes a decent pistol scope but I'd suggest spending a tad more cash and get a Nikon or Leupold for the 454.

I have had good luck with them. Have a 4x fixed on my 12" 44mag Encore and a 2.5-8x on my 15" 30-06 Encore. (handgun obviously) No problems.

The Weaver's not bad, but when it comes to picking a scope for a hard recoiling handgun, I'd look at a Burris with the posi-lock feature.

Got a Nikon Monarch 2.5x8. Tried it out this evening and found out the hard way the guy that mounted it did a pretty sorry job. It shot all over the place, crosshairs were cocked, scope moved back a good 1/4 inch. Took it back and let another guy try it, he seemed to do a pretty good job. But I ran out of shells and am waiting on the tumbler to load some more up. Was really hoping to get it zeroed this evening since I have only 35 bullets and I can't find anymore 300 gr xtp mags anywhere, much less 2400 powder. Got some h110 but don't care for all the flash it puts out. I'll try again next week.

About the burris, I had a Pentax made at the time by Burris, on a m77 220 swift. After about 3 years one of the lens came loose, called pentax they said call burris ,they said they did not honor the warranty. Pentax quit making scopes so I was out of luck. Will never ever buy anything that says burris on it or pentax for that matter.

You bought a Pentax and had a Pentax warranty, not a Burris warranty. I don't understand why you'd be upset that Burris didn't warrant a Pentax scope.

I'm a huge fan of Nikon scopes, and you may well be happy with it. On a 454 Casull handgun, I would buy the best scope with the best warranty I could get, and become friends with someone in their warranty dept.--Mike Ezell

This was about 12 years ago, Burris made the scope for Pentax. There was a brief period of time Pentax quit selling scopes, the time frame when my tore up. How would you like to buy a 300 dollar scope with a lifetime warranty and nobody own up to it?

Actually the recoil is not as bad as you would think. Finished lining it up today everything seems fine. Sighted in 2 inches high at 75 yards, just a little over a inch at 100.

Oh, I've shot em'.:) Recoil is relative to the shooter, but not to the scope. Handguns put more lateral forces on the internals of a scope than a rifle does. A scope that may be fine on a 338 Win mag might be junk in a little while on a handgun with similar recoil energy.(such as a 454 Casull). That's why I recommended the Burris with the posi loc. The posi-loc supports the erector tube inside the scope, and the rest of the Burris handgun scope is built like a tank. What I don't like about the Burris is that it's less tolerant of eye (mis)alignment than the loopy or nikons are. Good luck.---Mike Ezell

I ended up puting a Leupold 2x on my 44Mag. The others didn't last long.
