X2 !!

Garmin makes many models with all kinds of bells & whistles. You probably just need to look at the offerings and think about how he would use it. Some have very detailed mapping while others basically show the way to directional waypoints.

I've had the basic, yellow e-trex model for several years..absolutely no problems and about as simple operating as you get. I think I gave like $99 way back then. Its something I dont use that often but mainly while hunting public ground in areas I'm not familliar with. I've used mine to mark stand locations... turkey roost ....even submerged brush piles on the lake.

I've even marked known property corners and just tested its accuracy. Its always amazed me at the accuracy of these things.

I have a Garmin Legend HCx and its awesome. It works really well in the woods with a lot of tree cover. It also does turn by turn directions as well. Its a really neat GPS. I also have a Garmin Nuvi 255W for the car its awesome as well.

The 99$ garmin rhino from wally world are hard to beat. I carried mine daily in Iraq for two tours. If you stand still for a sec it will get you with in 16 feet. I just had mine out the day. I got a fence row where the fence is almost gone. I used my rhino to put in all the fence post as way points and then clicked and dragged the point to where they should be (within the 16 feet). I then took the lat longs and plotted all the points into Google earth.

Thanks for all the input. Does anyone know how accurate these are. I keep finding different info at different places. One site said accurate to 10 ft and another said 45 ft.
