If I had known that you were there, I would have said something to you. We were there for a while making my little girl slow down from the rides and eat something.

No. We saw them go out with lights and sirens but figured that they had a call somewhere. There were two different cars that went up in flames during the two heats that we watched but both guys got out.

Keith.... it dont take much to entertain us down this way. Lawnmower demo-derby probably began by the famous red-neck words... Hey... I gota great idea!!:D

Seriously though..... I've heard several say this years Murray / Calloway fair / carnie rides were really good.

you came in later on then,,,,,,this fire the car was completely engulfed,,,and it was in the first heat of the small cars,,,i was looking down and heard a small boom,,,looked up and flames was rolling out of the inside of the car,,,rescue was there in just seconds,,,the fire department got called out twice,,,besides that,,,,i think it was the best demo i have seen in years,,,,

My wife and I went with my daughter and her friend the night of the derby. Did run in to quacker. We were taken aback by the profanity coming out of the mouths of these young teens. Also, the tattoo business, besides the "temporary" ones done at the fair, appears to be booming.

I saw some guy walking around with a damn Fidel Castro shirt on. Figured he was one of them grouse hunters. ;)

As a society... Bill Engvall jokes aside... we're doomed.

I was going to comment on this last night before I fell asleep in my chair...

WKB made a thread earlier in the week about sending your kids to the fair unsupervised and several chimed in about the carnies.

Here's what I saw:

Tattoos, hair every color of the rainbow, pierced everything, mouths that would make a sailor blush, the vast majority of them chain smoking, acts that would nearly qualify as soft core porn, etc., etc.

Did I mention that this behavior was not the carnies but instead the local teenagers? The majority of them looked to be too young to even have driver's licenses yet.

I'm here to tell you, the carnies were one heck of a lot more clean cut and behaved than the area teens that I saw there Friday night. I was in complete disbelief.

WKB, your daughter had nothing to fear from the carnie population (which was the most clean cut that I have seen in a long time) but it looks like your ex needs to start attending school with her.

As a father of a teenage daughter.... and knowing both of ya'll are going to be there sooner than you think. Its a good example of why you need to stay close & involved in what their doing.

Around here is no different than anywhere you go. We passed the fairgrounds last night and my daughter said.... I just never liked fairs. I asked if any of her friends were going?? She said... dad were too old for the fair scene...too many weird "goth" people there. With her saying that...it was probably a good bet a lot of these kids were not really local.

On that note.... back a few weeks ago... we had about 12-14 of my daughters friends... mostly ones she is in band with... for a bonfire/ weenie roast/ cookout. It was as many boys here as girls( another thing to look foward to)... ages were 16-18. Me & my wife were here but just let them hang out & have a good time alone without us pestering them. I would check occasionally on them but pretty much to the extent if they needed anymore food..ect.

When it finally ended.... I heard a bunch of kids coming into the house. The boys had brought all the coolers...folding chairs...food... lights & lanterns in. Next morning...figured I had mess to clean up... but did'nt. All the trash / drink cans / paper plates was bagged ... remaining fire wood that I had drug up ....was stacked out of the way... I literally did'nt have anything to clean up. I would brag on this group of kids anytime and have.

So.... I would'nt let the actions of a few at the fair.. reflect on all kids in general. I personally put the majority of blame right square on the parents for language & disrespectful actions. As a parent... "you cant have a do as I say not as I do" attitude and expect them to make good decisions.

I also dont consider myself as any expert on parenting... but growing up ..if I did something wrong ...I got my butt busted. There were consiquences to my actions. I was taught to say please, thank you.. yes sir/mam. I had chores to do and all of them was to be done even if I had other plans. I did'nt do anything until they were done.

I've made my share of mistakes as a parent but the basic rules on how to act or be respectfull to others will never change. We just need to remember its taught ...not inherited.

Sorry for jumpin on my soapbox. :D
