In an effort to aid in the direct flow of information from the League of Kentucky Sportsmen to the sportsmen (and women) themselves, and vice versa, we have asked and been granted a dedicated space to discuss issues and share information. So feel free to use this section to ask questions, request information, voice your opinions, etc. regarding anything associated with the League of Kentucky Sportsmen. Our intent is to provide enhanced communication to our membership and provide a method for timely feedback. Enjoy!
Also, you will notice another forum above identified as the LKS Bulletin Board, which is intended to be used by the LKS leadership as a centralized area to post information, etc. regarding League activities, issues, etc. Our intent is to provide a centralized location where all of our members and each of our affiliate clubs can obtain timely notices, bulletins, news releases, etc. We will be sending a mailing asking the affiliates to designate one of their members, who has internet access, to periodically monitor this site and report any news back to their individual clubs. These sections will be a "work in progress" and will undoubtedly evolve as the new LKS leadership settles into their new roles.
So use this forum, and share your opinions with us, and together we'll continue to improve and modernize the LKS to meet the needs of the 21st century sportsman.

Highbow, why not just enlist your club as an affilate and join up that away? It's cheaper in the long run and the League gains more, plus your club gets 2 voters at the convention.

The acronyn for League of Kentucky Sportsmen has traditionally been LKS. I notice it is being used both ways on this site. ( LKS, LOKS ) I would recommend deleting the O and uniformly using LKS.

Multi, I hope that the members can be brought into LKS but I don't control the club. I'm a member of UBK who is under LKS and I pay my indiviual dues too. Even though I don't grouse hunt much any more I might join the Grouse HUnters although I would perfer it to be a whitetail club or archery.

Thank you Doggone, that makes perfect sense???????
The last thing ANY organization should EVER do is, "Sit around and talk to one another"????????
BTW, the 6th Federation has grown by 15 clubs this past year. Sorry to have to be the one to pass such "depressing" news along to you.

doggone,
You know...6 - 12 months ago, I would have agreed with your assessment of the LKS. However, things appear to be changing for the better. By the end of this month, the LKS will have a full compliment of directors, as each of the 9 Federations will be organized and operational. I'm quite sure the folks in the 1st, 4th, & 9th Districts don't share your opinion about never seeing LKS representatives at their meetings, as they will all soon be represented, some after several years of inactivity.
Honestly, your rant smacks of a disgruntled member unwilling to adapt to and/or embrace the much needed change that is currently occurring. If the LKS is indeed DEAD, as you say, then your point is moot. If you don't like the current direction, feel free to put in the time, effort and expense to form the necessary statewide coalition to sell the idea of returning to your "good ole' days".

The seventh district picked up four new clubs since March 1st. The eight district which hasn't had resprentation in over six years. Elected Mark Rogers director in May of this year. I feel sure there will be new clubs join in that district. Wait a minute, he belongs to a new club in that district that joined in May. The first district has a new director by the name of Dan Cayce. Who was elected on July 6th, 2004. The first at this time has four new clubs and are on a mission. The fourth district, hopefully will elected a new director on July 30th. This district hasn't been repersented in two years. I feel sure the person filling that spot will bring that district together once again. The ninth just elected Dale Weddle as director. He has signed up five new clubs and will be looking for others in the near future. If you were in the third district Saturday, and I beleive you were, you would have seen Kent Cooper working with one of the newest and most dedicated affiliates the league has, HUNTERS FOR THE HUNGRY. The fifth district is strong and has been for some time now. The second district has been repersented well for years and from what I understand will be picking up at least two new clubs this month. The sixth district is up to 14 clubs, 5 new clubs in the last month, and hopefully will have more to come.
Now if your talking about the GOOD OLD BOY faction, I sure hope it's DEED. Because everyone should have a say, not only on local issues, but on state and national issues a like. And if I have anything to say, they will, and I do have a say. The train is picking up speed, so if you want on, hop aboard.

Doggone, seriously. Who are the "people" you refer to, and where, when and how do we reach them?
Unless you can, and will, answer those questions fully and in good faith, you need to go to the nearest mirror, look into it, and recognize that you are looking at the problem.

A group of people have been trying, working hard, at bringing the League of Kentucky Sportsmen to the forefront of Sportsmen representation in Kentucky. It is a broad minded group of dedicated individuals. I'm sure they will be the first to tell you that they don't have all the answers. But what has happened in only a month is very impressive. Don't be left on the sidelines, become part of the group. Give them information as to anyone that needs to be contacted, what are their issues, who are the contact persons. But don't just sit there on your own rearend. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. For LKS to prosper, it will take the effort of us all, not the expectation that only a few will be doing all the work for the many. After all, this is volunteer work. So dump the negative attitude, roll up your sleeves and lets all get to work, together.

This is another avenue to get the word out on what's going on. I for one go to numerous clubs and organizations. I now have a place to get the info to take to those groups. Everyone involved in making this happen gets a huge thank you from me.

How many times have we been talking on here about the LKS when some one posts "what is the LKS"? Now there will be so much more positive exposure from just these two links than we could ever imagine.
Whether a person wants to give up or not is fine. Those of us on here do our best to put our time and money where our keyboards/mouths are and we do it for free. The real thing to admire about these guys is most of us fight battles for other folks that don't even interest us personally. Habitat two hundred miles from home? A WMA at the other end of the state? A season change for a species we don't hunt or fish for? If a person wants to give up then don't complain when the wolf comes to YOUR door. We have no reserves in the rear, we fight the battle with what we have head on.
We don't always have the right answers but we also admit it and actively seek wise counsel.
On a different note: Where have you been hiding, Sky?

i for one had never heard of the LKS. i was registered as a member on another forum and got an email from either GSP or Darton73 recommending i check out ky hunting.com. i've been a member here now since jan.'02, not long after this forum started up. i've been hunting and fishing all my life and cant believe i never heard of this group,as well as others such as UBK,grouse hunters and the houndsmen. theres just not enough exposure out there and if it wasnt for this forum, i probably still wouldnt know they exist.
