Is there any kind of cheap pipe clamp or some other device from a local hardware store that would mount a mag light to the bottom of a shotgun barrel?

forget a mag lite...they are heavy and produce a weak beam. Get a Surefire 6p. They are VERY bright LED flashlights and small. The best part is that typical scope rings will hold them. I know you'll need a weaver or picatinny rail to mount the rings, but you should be able to fab something up.

Yeah I was talking about the LED equipped mini-mags. I have one that is light enough I can hold it in my teeth and it lights up half my yard. I figured it would be fine. I've heard anywhere from 55 to 75 lumens and the surefire is advertised at 65 so it'll probably work.

With a wooden spacer, might try and hollow it out to fit the gun and the light.

You could also use a small square piece of foam like from a swimming pool noodle between the light and barrel and secure it with velcro straps or wire ties.

Ok, I've got it figured out and already have it on my gun: ATV grips. :D Seriously.

The mag lights slip right in with little wiggle room. Find one with a slight flange on the open end, slip the light in, then zip tie it to the barrel. It doesn't harm the finish on the gun, doesn't slip slide around, and should absorb some of the shock to the bulb, plus the flange leaves just enough room to twist the end to turn it on. Mine looks dorky right now because all I had on hand was gray but if you had black grips it really wouldn't look bad at all. My total investment is about $11 including the LED mag lite since I got the light on sale and the grips were given to me.

Those pesky two legged mammals, plus my chicken farming hobby is attracting nocturnal critters, especially skunks.

Only problem I can see is if when the barrel gets hot it will melt your zip ties! I rigged up a mag lite in a shotgun years ago I believe i used a clamp made for attaching an extended magazine then put some alumimum tape on the clamp ends( so it wouldnt sctatch the barrel) and it worked pretty good with the remote switch which you can buy which replaces the end cap. Brownells probably sells the clamps.
