This is a quote from Warden 310:
"Trappers numbers are on the rise! The thing that drives the numbers is MONEY, not promotion. Fur prices have really rebounded the last couple years with averages from last year- red foxes $25-30; grays
$15-20; raccoons $10-15; beaver ~$20; and coyotes $15-25. And otters $100-150! Thank goodness for our first otter season in west KY this fall.
The first-ever trappers' education course is to be conducted at Jefferson County Sportsmans Club on August 7th. It will be put on by the Kentucky FurTakers Organization and will be an 8 hours course. I'm helping gather names for the event, so PM or email me (kdfwr310@hotmail.com) me if you have anyone interested. Or contact the Kentucky FurTakers, President Paul Brown (502) 969-7119. "
I think this is a great idea. In another thread, Warden states: "This is not a F&W driven course." IMHO, it should be. I hope this will be a successful program and the sponsers will consider taking the program on the road to different parts of the state. Heck, maybe even develop a historical/education program that can be shown in schools. (Sorry, I always plug getting kids involved in the outdoors.)
