Many years ago I sprayed a gun that has a stainless barrel and synthetic stock b/c I wanted to use it for varmints as well as deer. It turned out pretty good. Now I'm wanting to get that shiney barrel back after the paint has chiped in a few spots. I'm wondering if theres a safe way to do this without hurting the stainless barrel. If any process to get paint off is going to hurt the gun than forget it I'll leave the paint on it. Any suggestions welcome...

Shiny stainless doesn't really have a finish- it's just bare stainless. 0000 steel wool and some elbow grease ought to bring the paint off and not harm the metal.

Were it me, I'd just touch up the paint with another coat of Krylon.

I'd use some kind of chemical remover. Steel wool will hardly leave it shiny, it'll be the difference between normal stainless cookware and the brushed stainless finish, big difference.

Paint thinner and steel wool works I did a Beretta Pintail once.

Pull the barreled action out of the stock, disassemble the trigger group, magazine, etc. and use a chemical stripper. Once you've got it stripped, wash it with soap and water, rinse with very hot water (enough to heat the steel up to evaporate water in the nooks and crannies), clean things up, lubricate and reassemble. It's a lot of work.

That sounds like a weekend project I could do with my friend Shinerbock.:D

Whatever. I don't know your friend, but if he gets his jollies stripping anything, maybe you ought to reevaluate your friends (G). Seriously, you can either touch it up or go the distance. There is no wrong answer, just what you want the piece to look like when you're done. For years, I had a Savage 99 that I camoed with spray paint. It was ugly as a mud fence, it was weatherproof and it shot pretty nice. After listening to one of my huntin' buddies tell me how much he liked the look of that old piece, I finally set a price that I thought would scare him off. He coughed up the dough and now I don't have a painted up S-99. I should have asked for more, because now I miss the gun.

Thank your lucky stars your piece is stainless. If it were blue, your options would be even more limited.

Better yet, use this as an excuse to buy a new gun to complement your old one.
