I am going frog gigging tonight, I had my gig out on the porch with some of my other stuff I was taking and a friend of mine informed me that my gig was not legal for frogs because it was a fish gig. I looked on kdfwr's website and couldn't find anything about legal gig sizes. I have never heard of anything like that before, I bought the gig at a yard-sale over the summer but I definately don't want to use it if it's not legal. The total spread of the 5 tines is about 4 inches and they are about 4 and1/2 inches long.
Can someone tell me what the regulations are for frog gigs.

BULLFROGS (301 KAR 1:082)
The taking season for bullfrogs opens at noon on the third Friday in May (May 16, 2008) and runs through Oct. 31. If a gun or bow and arrow are used, a hunting license is required. If frogs are taken by pole and line, a fishing license is required. If frogs are taken by gig or by hand, then either hunting or fishing license is valid. The daily noon-to-noon creel limit for bullfrogs is 15. The possession limit is 30.

Yeah that's about all I could find too. I had never heard of any gig size rules before but I don't want to get a ticket just for not knowing.

Well not so well...... we got caught in a pop up shower that nearly drowned us... my little girl is almost 5 years old, she managed to gig to big bullfrogs. I'm gonna take her back out tonight and let her try again. We got a little better pond to try tonight.

The bigger fish gigs are all I use any more. It seemed like you had to gig 'em and keep 'em pinned to the ground with the little frog gig tines. With the bigger fish gigs, they absolutely can't get free if you lift the gig out of the mud. It tears the guts out of 'em getting them off and that helps assure they don't take off.:)

smaller gigs dont hold up that well either ;) I lost the biggest red horse I ever saw because it broke the tine out of a frog gig..

Yeah those little "wire" type gigs are junk. Soon as you hit a rock, stump, or even just the hard bottom they bend around ever which way.

I was always fond of a 4 inch 4 pronged gig with 9/32" prongs. I attached them to a clothes line prop pole by brazing them together with a coat hanger. Back when then halogen bulbs weren't invented yet so we relied on a good 6V lantern with a quiet switch!
