Not surprised in the least that athletics take funding over anything else. Ever wonder why tuition is so high? And no, I don't buy into the nonsense that it's anything BUT coach's salaries and scholarships for the players. Take away the university's bills for those two things, and I'd bet tuition could actually drop to somewhat reasonable levels.

As it stands, it's right around $300-400 per credit HOUR, right? That's like $900 or more for a single class. When I did JCC a few years back, it was a third of that.

If they dropped basketball at UK tuition would actually rise. Athleitc departments at major universities fund themselves and actually turn a little money to the general fund as well. The university does not pay for the scholarships the athletic departments do and that money comes from revenues such as ticket sales, donations and merchandise sells as well as concessions on game days. None of some kids tuition money is funding the sports programs at UK or U of L.

UK's athletic program is self funded and sufficient. In fact they have a 10 million dollar commitment to the general scholarship fund right now.
