that your car's warranty is about to expire. This is the last time we will offer this to you before your name is removed from the list.

I'm wondering how many times a day do any of you get this call. I have emailed the Ky Attorney General but no response yet. I would hope everyone who gets these calls will contact the attorney general's office as well.

I wish I could get there number and call and aggrivate the hell out of them. I would every five min.

Ask and ye shal recieve:
General Warranty
603-685-6150

A few weeks ago, they called me, and I strung one of their salesmen along for about 20 minutes, making them think I was interested. I figured that if they were spending that time with me, then that wasn't time they were taking advantage of some poor old widdow woman. I got a good cussing at the end when I ruined the guy's day and let him know I wasn't biting.

Forgot:
These guys figured out the commands to the company's voice mail system and have been messing with them for a while:

http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/8i1u7/want_the_phone_number_to_the_your_cars_warranty/

Anyway, they called me back yesterday to "follow up" on my previous call, and let me know about a new special deal. Only thing was, that I missed the call and they had called me without spoofing their number first.

If you're going to do this, MAKE SURE to use *67 or a pay phone. If they get your number, they'll start calling you in the middle of the night just to harass you back. (I can attest to this)

I get them 2 times a week. Here is the local story about.
The comments were pretty funny on this story, the one about the Barbie Power wheels was great!!

A comment from this story:

"I fixed this... they kept calling, so last call - I hit "1" to talk to them.... Guy asked my name (gave fake) then asked year/make/model - I told him it was a 91, "b-a-r-b-i-e" p-wheel... (spelled out barbie) he then repeated it and realized what I had said as he repeated it "a 91 Barbie Powerwheel!?!?!!?" I said - yep - a pink one... He then confirmed my # and I told him yes - thats the # you guys are calling non-stop, he laughed, said your off the list, c ya and I've NEVER heard from them again. Waste their time and your costing them money - they'll learn quickly not to call you if you pull their chain... "

I have caller ID. problem solved. If I dont know the number and it doesnt have a name, I dont answer. If you are on the do not call list, tell them and get thier name ID number and employer and turn them in to the Do not call people on the national level. they can be fined up to 10k per violation. the threat alone usually gets thier attention.

Normally, yes...

These folks have been told that untold thousands of times by different people.
They don't care.

Originally, I got notices from the car manufacturer, which I ignored until I made the mistake of calling on the last day just to find out exactly what was covered and how much it cost, just in case I was going to extend what I had when I bought the car. Price was $700 per year and was only given general things it would cover. My car is only a 2002 and because I don't drive far, I only have about 16K miles on it, so I opted to not take the warranty, and I had to hang up on the guy b/c he would not let me off the phone after about 1/2 hr!! Been getting the automated phone calls from whomever, since, and I just disconnect the call as soon as I hear it start, and they call me on my house and cell phones. Too much money to pay each year, IF something goes wrong, IMO. Funny, that is always your "last notice".

After receiving several of these calls myself, I decided to play along. The first time, they wanted to confirm the year, make, and model of my vehicle. I told them to read to me what they had, and I'll confirm it if it's correct. They couldn't (obviously). I said, well you called me. The call ended.

The next time, they again wanted my vehicle information. I asked them which one. They said the one that they were offering the extended warranty on. I told them that all of my vehicles were over 10 years old and that they couldn't warranty any of them. The call ended.

The last time, the call started the same way ... wanting my vehicle information. I told them that I had lost my job and that my car got repossessed. I asked them if they could provide one for me that has a warranty so I could find a job. The call ended.

I haven't gotten another call in about a month. I'm sure they'll start back up, though.

I know that some people will say that they deserve it for being stupid...

BUT... I do wonder how many people have fallen for this. They wouldn't be doing it if it weren't profitable.

They call mine and my wife's cell phone once a week. I have done everything but threaten their life and they still keep calling. Now I just pick up and hang up and wait until next week when they call back.

I get them all the time, even on the Government Phone that was issued to me. First thing I say to them is, why do I need a warranty new vehicles and then I tell them to stop calling me.

I guess they can't take no for an answer.

“This prompt, aggressive action by the FTC should provide a bit of relief to the Americans besieged by these fraudulent calls.”

Yea... Prompt, and aggressive... This has been happening for months, and to hundreds of thousands of people- but when a Senator's mom gets the call it's immediate.

I do hope the press interviews the owners of these companies.

You know I have been wondering the same thing. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who actually did take the coverage and if they actually covered what they said they would.

Feds Sue Car Warranty Companies Behind Robo-Calls

Federal Trade Commission officials are seeking injunctions against these companies forcing them to return allegedly ill-gotten gains.

AP

Federal regulators filed suits Thursday against several companies they say are behind a national wave of spam "robo-calls" that warn people their auto warranties are expiring and offer new service plans.
Federal Trade Commission officials said they asked a federal court in Chicago to halt the illegal telemarketing campaign of "Your Car Warranty Has Expired." Officials say as many as 1 billion of the nuisance calls have been made to Americans.
The FTC named Voice Touch Inc. and Transcontinental Warranty Inc. in the suits. It is seeking injunctions forcing them to return allegedly ill-gotten gains.
FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz called it "one of the most aggressive" telemarketing schemes the agency has ever seen.
"I'm not sure which is worse, the abusive telemarketing tactics of these companies, or the way they try to deceive people once they get them on the phone," Leibowitz said. "Either way, we intend to shut them down."
It took some heavy sleuthing to determine what companies were responsible since they made "extraordinary" efforts to conceal their identities by masking their true phone numbers, he said.
If a consumer received such a call about his car warranty, "there's a very real chance that these guys did it," Leibowitz told reporters in a conference call.
Representatives from Voice Touch and Transcontinental Warranty were not immediately available to comment Thursday afternoon.
While seeking return of allegedly illegal profits from the companies, the FTC isn't immediately seeking civil fines against them but may consider doing so later on, agency officials said.
Attorneys general in Arkansas, Indiana and Missouri have taken similar actions over the calls offering deals on extended warranties, which have brought about 300,000 inquiries and 4,000 complaints to the Better Business Bureau from consumers over the past two years. The calls come even if the consumer has signed up for the national "Do Not Call" registry, which is maintained by the FTC.
The calls target people regardless of whether they have warranties or even own cars. They call numbers randomly and leave messages with a computerized voice telling people, falsely, that their auto warranties are about to expire, regulators say.
"Out of warranty? You are still eligible to reactivate warranty coverage. This is the final call before we close the file." The recording typically gives the caller an option to stop receiving calls, but they continue to come even if consumers opt out.
If people call back and agree to buy policies, the companies often don't let them see the contracts until they agree to pay. And some people don't learn until they've spent thousands of dollars that the deals don't cover many types of repairs, according to regulators.
