I thought I smelled something the other day in the garage when I came home from work, and tonight I took the time to investigate.

Sure enough....one dead freezer. Still plugged in and humming along. Just not making cool air.

Lost what was left of 2 deer from last year, last of my snapper and grouper from last falls Florida trip and what might be the worse. Had a large "powdered milk" bag that I had 3 bull canvasbacks, 1 harlequin, 2 pintail drakes and perfect oldsquaw hen. All birds that I planned on getting mounted next. I left the cans in the freezer in favor of more recently killed sea ducks when I went down to see Shane Smith a few months ago. Regretting that decision now.

I left mine unplugged once after doing some dry walling in my basement. Lost alot of game. The smell was undescibable. I tried cleaning with bleach and every cleaner in the house. Let it air out but the smell was too bad. I thought I would have to throw it away. I then read to fill it full of crumpled up news paper and let it set in there a couple days then replace with fresh newspaper. Well, it worked like a charm. It removed all signs of the putrid smell.

Too late now, but you can buy a digital freezer alarm for less than $15 that lets you know if the temperature in your freezer rises.
