Dual Jet Ski Trailer Modified to Carry 2 Canoes

how hard do you think it would be to modify. how much would a used trailer cost approx?

Canoes are 14 ft long and 37" wide. Think it would make life a little easier when it comes to floating rivers with a friend or two.

Figured id unleash the KYhuntin forum think tank on this one.

thanks

Won't take much modifying at all. Cost of a used trailer is whatever the market determines. I wouldn't get your heart set on getting one for 10-20% of new...Those trailers are hard to come by.

You could probably buy an utility trailer cheaper. Build you a rack that would sit on the trailer and take it out when you were not using it.

I've been thinking of turning a small 4x8 trailer I have into a kayak trailer myself. I have seen them before, and all you really need to do is build a rack with tie-down points. I think you may be better off finding a utility trailer and doing it that way.

I'm of the opinion that a pair of canoes go easily in the bed of a pickup, negating the cost and hassle of a trailer of any kind. 14 footers would fit in a Ranger or S-10 easily. I've done it with a Dakota and 17 footers many, many times.

If a truck is unavailable, a utility trailer and a handful of tie-down straps would be cheap and functional.

i have access to my dad's 12 and 18 ft trailers but there a good 20 minute drive one way to the farm to get. i was trying to think of something i could get my hands on that i could just leave my boat on so i can jump whenever i get the itch to go float.

i can't imagine getting two canoes in the back of my truck or a good freind of mines truck so i'd like the idea of a trailer.

thanks guys

Try it just one time. Even a short wheel base will easily carry two 14 footers.

That is a good article. Not exactly what I have in mind, but it does give me some ideas. I am looking at building a rack for the small trailer to accomidate up to 4 kayaks.

I would think you would need to lengthen the tongue, plus jet ski trailers are real expensive. Just get a POS utility trailer and modify it.

I purchased an old boat trailer, built a box to haul the extra gear. Then built a set of rails that to carry the canoes. The entire project cost me about $150. Since then I have found many other uses for the trailer. Carry mountain bikes, haul extra camping gear, I could pull the top off the box and it would carry an ATV. If you are ever in Ely Minnesota near the Boundry Waters you will see hundreds of these types of trailers...

I modified a double jetski trailer and it works great. I can haul 2 fourwheelers or 2 canoes easily with it. It's light and the metal is galvanized so it won't rust. The canoes only hang off the back of the trailer about 2.5ft.

I took off the bunks, laid treated 2x6 down the center and spaced my 10ft alum ramps the distance of the widest 4 wheeler. I got the ramps at a scrap yard. I have about $350 total & 4hrs work in the whole deal.
