No thanks....Not only will I not support their cause, I have found the quality of the food at the local Applebee's to be less than average. If you like eating off of dirty plates, an empty tea glass, wilted salad, and meat so tough you need to bring along your gutting knife to cut it, by all means....visit Applebee's.

Don't hold back Keith, tell us what ya really think! :D
That was his mild Applebee's rant.. trust me. ;)
I have to side with Applebee's on the empty tea glass. I've eaten w/ Keith before and it almost requires a pump truck to keep his tea glass full.:D
I guess I'm confused. If there are leash laws and then this group passes an "anti-chain" law....what do you do with your dog? So help me if I'm supposed to piggy back then I quit....I just know the pee will get on my boots.

why is it that, when they see you are drinking your tea faster than they can fill your glass, they can't just set the pitcher down on the table so you can fill your own??? Golden Coral on a busy lunch day, CAN YOU HEAR WHAT I AM SAYING?

HUH?????
the organization Speak Out And Rescue which helps chained and penned dogs in Kentucky."
They're NOT wanting more chained or penned, they want to "somehow help" those which already are???????
IOW sounds (to me at least) like they want to FREE those animals..........
I THINK what they are talking about are dogs that spend their entire lives, or a great majority of it tied to a short chain. You know the type... A mud circle worn around the dog, mounds of crap, a sorry excuse of a shelter, and a 5 gallon bucket for water filled by rain, usually filled with moss and skeeters. The dog is there hot or cold, rain, snow, ect... All it does is bark, and the only human interaction it gets is when the owner comes out to throw scraps at it.
What is the point in having a dog if you are just going to leave it on a 8 foot chain it's entire life?
It's a huge problem in this area, especially in poor neighborhoods.

Art, I know this type of dog owner. It needs to stop. If someone cant take care of a dog the way it needs to be taken care of they should lose it! Imo...phil

Even so (IF that's correct) WHAT are they going to do about it? They "claim" to "help" but don't say HOW......
I don't see anything that even remotely supports their stance, some support PETA yet they kill 95% of the animals they "help" (and not always so humanely either)...
IMHO "all" that will happen is they'll cause more strays running around , all the problems with that.... "some help"
I can't believe that I'm the only one skeptical about their "help".....

I agree with those talking about dogs being tied out and forgotten about. Cute as little puppies then when the cuteness goes away they are tossed aside. Problem is if you let some "animal rights" organization with support of the govt have their way, we will be tied out and out coon/bird dogs will be throwing us out scraps!!!

I won't own a dog if it has to be penned up like a wild animal or on the end of a chain to live it's life. Not fair to man's best friend....That's why I have my entire back yard enclosed with a 6 ft. privacy fence so my dogs can run around and have a good ole time......:)

I won't go near a Denny's. The last time I did I was lucky to wake up the next day.
Don't want any dogs eating there either. Cats too for that matter.

There was another email circulating from them here a few weeks ago talking about a girl from this group that had gone to "rescue" a pit, and it ended up biting her pretty badly. Apparently, they just go buy the dogs from the owner, and if the owner won't give, they just sneak in and take it. Not only off leads, but out of pens as well. If they don't think your pen is big enough, they WILL take your dog.
These folks are nuts.
Just found the old email:
"Hi Friends,
Last night was a night SOAR had hoped to never encounter, but given the nature of what we do, our volunteers are at risk everytime we try and make a difference for a chained dog. One of our volunteers was bitten badly!
Myself and Erin, our spunky, go getter volunteer, went back out yeterday evening to check on some dogs we weren't able to get to on Saturday.
We went back and checked on Lady, the chained 15 year old dog in District 2. We asked the owner if he changed his mind about surrendering Lady, of course, he didn't. Poor thing, he said he was taking her to the farm, perhaps this weekend..
He was pretty upset that he received an anonymous letter from someone in the mail offering to buy her for 50.00. We had a hard time convincing him it was not SOAR. Plus, the letter went to the wrong address, and SOAR knows his address.
The next stop we went to was to check on two Pitbulls that we have received more than one complaint on. We had a hard time spotting these dogs, but suddenly one was sitting on the embankment staring at us from afar. I thought it odd that he never barked, never moved, he only looked defeated.
I zoomed in with my handy camera and saw the reason he does not bark. He has a bark collar on along with a regular collar. Look closely at the pics I attached. The black one is a bark collar!
I find this appalling that not only is he unable to flee from danger, he can't even bark. We never saw the other dog, but we know there are two. We knocked at the residence and the woman said they were her daughter's dogs and we should come back.
"We'll do that."
Pick up those phones people, they are in District 11, Peggy Hensen's District and she voted against the chaining ordinance last week.
Our final stop was the worst! This dog is in District 10, Doug Martin's district. He was absent at last week's committee meeting.
Mary Ann and I do have a meeting with him in the morning. I hope the photos will gain his support.
This Rottweiler, was going in circles and was agitated from the get go. A hostile female came from the house and asked what we were doing and I explained to her that we were not Animal Control. They had been there earlier in the day from a complaint they received on them. All ACO told them was to put some wood under the truck top and that would be sufficient for shelter. They also took the dog to the vet that day for vaccinations!
Then the man came out and he was hostile, I spent 10 minutes trying to calm him down, once we did, he said he wanted help and I was just about to get his info when I heard screaming..
The dog had bit Erin as she was laying straw for him, he grabbed hold of her arm and bit down hard. The female owner was right there with her, but a chained dog is an unpredictable dog.
We were at Central Baptist Hospital for over two hours. That was one nasty bite. He punctured the top and underneath of her right forearm. When I called to check on her this morning her Fiance told me she has to have surgery on it!! the dog bit down so close to her tendons that there are air pockets in there and they want to go in and clean it out so infection doesn't set it..
She insists she will be back out on the streets with us, but future hubby was pretty upset.. He didn't find it funny when we joked that it had to be amputated. We were just trying to lighten up a bad situation:)
Sadly, no matter how careful we are, we know this can happen.
I hate that it did, especially to someone else. But Erin hopes that this will prove to council that chained dogs are a danger to society, not to mention inhumane!
If you live in District 10, let Doug Martin know you want him to support such an ordinance.
By the way, this dog remains with the owner for the quarentine time of ten days. They have three small children, all in diapers. hmmmm.. that's scary.. SOAR does not blame the dog, if we were tied to a tree and made to live in a tuck topper and have overturned food and water bowls, I'd want to bite too.
Humans are at fault here.
Our prayers are with you Erin! Hang in there.
Tracy"

I pass a house that has rabbit dogs in a pens that are about 2 ft x 2 ft that are up off the ground. It looks more like a pen for rabbits than dogs. I just think what a life those animals must have.

I THINK to these whackjobs, THAT is still a penned dog (and kinda my whole point) WHO are "they" to decide If MY pen (or run, or chain) is big/long enough, AND what are "they" going to do with them that's so much better? THEY don't explain it, but it's OK as they "just want to help" (and make $$$ saying that' s what they're doing)

My dog stays on a 30' "chain" most of the time. I turn him loose for at least an hour every day and clean up after him daily. He always has plenty of fresh food and water and I move him to a different part of the yard every month or so so he always has fresh grass under him (well, OK, I do it so he doesn't ruin the yard :p) and he has a nice big house filled with dry straw. I feel pretty confident that he has a much better life then some dog that's "free" to roam around a tiny apartment all day while their owners are at work and then get to go on a 10 minute walk on a short leash when they get home if their lucky.
I've seen many dogs tied up that do live in horrible conditions (I just love the idiots that tie them to a tree or something and the dog wraps the chain around it a dozen times and gets left that way all day or longer) but just because a dog is "chained" doesn't mean it needs rescuing.

Well Said.
After reading that email where poor Erin (the intruder and dog thief) became attacked by the obviously weak and starved pit, I became incredibly yet indirectly bored with a human being that I have never met, but I like the dog. That is weird. Almost like I do when I watch five minutes of any Nicole Kidman movie, but I like Keith Urban. just weird. :)
