I did the same thing a couple years ago.
I felt so stupid, of course its not the dogs fault -
I don't know what I expected leaving it with a bird
dog... :o

Had a lab do the same thing to a mounted duck that I sat in the garage while moving. Went in to eat lunch, came back out and it was headless.....

Now thats funny. I'm sure it wasn't at the time. I just picture a duck huntin lab lookin at this mounted duck sittin there staring at em. You know it just tore em (the dog) up. :D He couldn't help it. We all tend to leave things layin around without thinking sometimes.

Yeah I had one of those rubber decoys that it's hard to get the dents out of so I stuffed some towels in it and was going to put it out in the sun at the recommendation of one of my buddies. I put it on top of the cover of the hot tub way up in the middle because of my roommates border collie pup... just for that particular reason. Well needless to say when I came back a couple of hours later there was my feeding hen in the middle of the yard with no beak or face. That's not as bad as a trophy fan I realize but man even though I never would it just makes you wanna punt em sometimes the things they do before they know better.

Same thing happened with my first gobbler fan. Wind blew it off the table I had it on while at my son's Little League game. Came home, looked in the back yard and see stuff fluttering all over the yard. Thinking, What the heck is that? I see a feather. It hit me what it was. I went out back and my lab wouldn't get near me. Closest I have ever gotten to killing my dog. Fortunately, she only ate the center, meaty part and I was able to recover all the feathers.
I went to a craft strore and got some thin wire. Using the pics we took when I killed it I was able to insert the wires into the feathers and then used duct tape to arrange the fan. I may have it a little wider than it really was but at least I have it and it doesn't look too bad. I'll take a pic of it later tonight and post it.

Sounds like the perfect reason to skip school and kill another one to me anyway. Good Luck. That just means your next fan will be even better looking and that you wont leave it laying around for a chew toy. Good Luck

Sounds like alot of us that have dogs and like to hunt have similar unfortunate happenings. I too, have had my dogs chew up my turkey legs and beards. I know it's my fault for leaving them where they can get to it. I guess it's like a magnet. They are attracted like pigs ears or raw hide chew toys. Better get you another one, who knows, it might be even bigger.

The first buck I ever killed with my bow....I left the rack in the back of the truck while I went back to get my treestand. The neighbors lab drug it out and we never did find it....
