I know the birds are henned up right now and everyone is struggling gettin birds to commit off the roost in the a.m. I was curious if anyone has tried evening hunting with any success this year. In years past I've done well but not where I'm hunting this year in Indiana. We got birds in TN gobbling all the way to the roost at times but not in Indiana. With my work schedule, evenings is when I get most of my time to hunt. So far, its been a waste of time. What about anyone else?

Haven't been in the afternoons yet myself. But have talked with several people that have had them gobbling and responding to calls during the afternoon. My girlfriend's brother got setup on two different gobblers yesterday afternoon and he said they were responding well to the calls but he unfortunately he was unable to seal the deal if you catch my drift. Hoping to try an afternoon hunt this weekend if I haven't filled my second tag by then.

Unfortunately, I called one in last Thursday at 4:30 pm. Strutted 65 yards across a field to my decoy before flogging her. Let's just say when I PULLED the trigger he ran off. They WILL respond in the afternoon if you get on the right bird!

I've stayed out to sunset 3 times so far. Glassed 2 big Toms opening day at about 8 pm but in an adjacent field and no way to sneak up on them.Mid week last week was a bust as was this past Sunday evening.Didn't hear a single gobble into nightfall Sunday.

I have had success in the past. I know they'll respond. I was curious how the birds were this year. I went out yesterday evening after work and got on a hot bird from 4:30-5:15 but couldn't get him closer than 80-100yds. He had a hen with him for a bit but was still getting closer. He finally quit gobbling hung up and I went to the house instead of pressuring him. He'll be ready in the next couple of days.

I have had great hunts in the afternoon. Killed most of my birds in the afternoon. So it can be done!!!

went out to farm 3 days in a row to roost birds and every day i got there @630-700 and there would be 5-6 Toms in the field until right before dark!
If you know about where they are roosting sit up and give it a try.
My son and I fired up a good one and he came in with 3 jakes and 2 hens

Tried it yesterday but was just set up alittle to far down the field! Maybe this evening things will be better gonna move on up the field and hopefully learn from my mistakes! You guys think I should put decoys out or just set up for a ambush as their walking back toward their roost?
