Well went out friday afternoon to a farm and set up in a wheat field. Had my decoy out (primos swinging hen) and had my trusty jake fan with me by my side. Had this bird come out with three hens at about 4:00. Couldnt get him to break away from the hens so i pulled out the fan and flashed it at him it was all he could do not to run to me he strutted the entire length of the field it took him an hour and a half but he finally got there Shot him at 5 steps!! 22.5 lbs 9 inch beard and 1 inch spurs just bought a new mossberg 835 the night before and if you will notice it gave me a real nice shiner on my right eye :D

What do you mean you "flashed" the jake fan at him? Tell me more about how you do this.

I carry a real fan off a jake that I killed a few years back and I couldnt get this bird to leave the hens at all so i clucked and purred a few times to get his attention and slowly raised my tail fan in the air where he could see it and moved it back and forth a few times thats all it took for him to drop his ladies and come strutting :D

you are a braver man than me.congrats on a turkey but that is pretty dangerous approach anywhere IMO but especially in public area.I am not criticizing our methods, just saying that I would be really concerned about getting shot buy anotyher hunter and that it needs to carefully thought out from a hunter saftey point of view. Sometimes things like this just go unsaid on these boards , and in this case I just went ahead and said it. No trying or intending to argue with anyone or insult this man's turkey or his skills.

Good looking bird! Congrats! Desperate times call for desperate measures just keep safety in mind when doing something like that! Either way congrats on a fine gobbler.

yes i do keep safety in mind and was hunting a farm where no one else was i carry it concealed in my vest and when im not using it i tuck it away out of view had some good luck out of it but i do keep safety in mind when using it but i feel its the same as with any thing such as carrying a decoy in your vest or anything its just a matter of hunters not knowing what they are shooting at and i think we all need to pay attention to safety not just me and my carrying a fan
