After getting his first bird of the season yesterday on his first hunt of the year, we went after bird # 2 in the same area. We hunted my duck hunting spot this time, and after it got past civil twilight, a bird gobbled near my old deer stand, just inside the woods about 100yds. We set out the dekes, Joey went inside the fields edge to clean him out a spot while i yelped in the decoys for effect. Hustling to get set behind Joey, the bird, im sure, walked into the field just as i sat down! Not much to tell...yet! Following the script i have witnessed on the other 2 kills in this area this week, here come the bird in full strut along side the wheat & field, about 20yds off fields edge! Just as he got within 5 yds of the dekes, a deer blew directly behind us!! Let me tell you, a gobbler can come out of strut quicker than you can think about it! "Oh $@*&*% Joe, u butter shoot"! Shoot he did, but missed as i am sure the sudden turn of events discombobulated Joey. " shoot again Joe, hurry hurry"". The bird takes to running. Joey stands up, chucks in another shell and with this, the bird takes wing! His duck hunting skills kick in and he drops the bird. It took A little longer than yesterday's bird, a 6:01am kill. 19 lb bird, thick 9" beard, 3/4 inch spurs. Here are some pics!

Apparently the saying about the "apple not falling far from the tree"... holds true. Congratulations to both of ya'll on a very successful turkey season.
