Me and a buddy went out this morning and setup on a gobbler that has been giving us the slip for the past 3 mornings. Right at daylight he began gobbling on the roost. However, soon after he flew down off the roost he shut up and wouldn't work to the calls. Around 7:30 we made our way to another farm to see if we could get in on any action. And boy did we! We parked the truck and hit the box call and immediately a gobbler sounded off. My buddy hit the call one more time to be sure he was responding to us and he sounded off again with a gobble. We got setup inside the woods probably 30 yards inside a field overlooking a draw and the gobbles kept getting closer and closer. However, the gobbles were coming from behind us out in the field that we had approached from. We belly crawled approximately 20 yards up the ridge to be able to see out into the field. As soon as I was able to see out into the field I saw a bird strutted up no more than 60 yards away. My buddy was slightly behind and to the right of me working a mouth call and we were soon able to realize there was more than one bird making the noise. They worked into about 25-30 yards away and we laid the hammer down on 2 out of the 3 gobblers. Mine was 22 lbs with 9 1/4 inch beard and 1 inch spurs and my buddies was 21 1/2 lbs with a 10 1/2 beard and 1 1/8 spurs. One of the best mornings I've ever had while in the woods. Will post pics as soon as I get them downloaded to my computer. Good luck to everyone else. :)
